The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology is one of the largest public research organisations in Japan, spanning materials, energy, life science, metrology and computing. Its Artificial Intelligence Research Center works on machine learning theory, robotics and industrial deployment, and the institute operates the AI Bridging Cloud Infrastructure supercomputer that serves researchers across the country. Its mandate is to bridge fundamental science and industrial application, so most projects run jointly with Japanese manufacturers.
