Overview
The European Ceramic Society is a non-governmental, nonprofit federation of national ceramic societies that represents ceramists across European member countries and promotes the study, education, research and industrial use of ceramics. Established in 1987, it organises the biennial ECerS conferences, summer schools and topical events, publishes the Journal of the European Ceramic Society and Open Ceramics, runs awards, a young ceramists network and student exchange programmes, and keeps a directory of ceramic laboratories in Europe. It brings together around thirty national member societies, is governed by a council of their delegates and relies largely on volunteers.
