Overview
Genetec is a Canadian company founded in 1997 that builds unified physical security software, and it was among the first to argue that video surveillance belonged on standard networks and servers rather than on dedicated recorders. Its Security Center platform combines video management, access control, automatic licence plate recognition and intrusion monitoring in one interface, sold through integrators to airports, transit systems, cities, hospitals and large enterprises. Headquartered in Montreal and privately held by its founder, it is unusual in the industry for refusing to build its own cameras, which keeps it neutral between hardware manufacturers.
