Overview
ResMed is a medical device company founded in Sydney in 1989 by a physician who had helped develop the first practical treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea and could not persuade anyone else to commercialise it. It makes the masks, flow generators and ventilators used to treat sleep apnoea and chronic respiratory disease, and it has built a large software business in the cloud platforms that manage those devices and the out-of-hospital care around them. Now headquartered in San Diego and listed in New York and Sydney, it shares the sleep apnoea market largely with Philips and benefited substantially from its competitor's device recall.

Products
Residential Care Software
Software for home medical equipment providers, home health and care agencies, built from a series of acquisitions. It puts the company inside the businesses that actually dispense its devices to patients.
resmed.com
Ventilators
Life support and non-invasive ventilation devices for chronic respiratory disease. This line is used in hospital and home settings and carries considerably heavier regulatory obligations than sleep therapy.
resmed.com
myAir and AirView
Patient and clinician platforms that track therapy adherence night by night. Insurers in the United States require documented adherence before they will pay, which makes the software commercially essential rather than optional.
resmed.com
Flow Generators
The CPAP and bilevel devices that deliver pressurised air during sleep. They are connected by default, which is how the company built the adherence data business that now sits on top of the hardware and locks in prescribers.
resmed.com
Masks and Accessories
The interfaces patients wear each night, replaced on a regular cycle. Consumables rather than machines are what make the business recurring, and mask comfort is the main reason a patient abandons therapy altogether.

People

Mick Farrell
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Mick Farrell is the founder's son and has led the company since 2013. He directed the move into connected devices and the software businesses around them.

Peter Farrell
