Sky is the protocol organisation formerly known as MakerDAO, which launched the DAI stablecoin in 2017 after being founded in 2014. It issues decentralised stablecoins backed by on-chain collateral and, increasingly, by tokenised short-term government debt. The system is governed entirely by token holder voting and is one of the oldest continuously operating decentralised finance protocols.
