WalletConnect is an open-source communications protocol, founded in 2018 by Pedro Gomes, that lets crypto wallets connect securely to decentralised applications across blockchains. It establishes an end-to-end encrypted session between a wallet and an application so transactions can be reviewed and signed on the user's own device rather than exposing private keys. The protocol has become an industry standard linking hundreds of wallets to tens of thousands of applications, and it is now developed by Reown alongside a decentralised relay network governed through the WCT token.
