Overview
Robinhood is an American brokerage founded in 2013 that made commission-free trading and fractional shares the industry norm through a mobile-first app aimed at first-time investors. It earns most of its revenue from payment for order flow, net interest on customer cash and margin lending, and a paid subscription tier, and it has expanded from equities and options into cryptocurrency, retirement accounts, prediction markets and a credit card. Headquartered in Menlo Park and listed on Nasdaq, it drew sustained regulatory attention after the meme stock trading restrictions of 2021.
