You’ll assess candidates’ problem-solving depth, communication clarity, and overall engineering quality - helping us build high-impact teams for fast-moving, AI-driven startups.\nYou’ll interview candidates for companies building modern, cloud-based products, where adaptability and technical excellence matter most. Rather than deep specialization in a single stack, we value engineers who can evaluate trade-offs, reason technically, and assess holistic engineering maturity.\nThis is a flexible, freelance, remote role - ideal for senior professionals who enjoy mentoring, evaluating talent, and contributing to a people-first engineering culture.\nWhat You’ll Do\nConduct structured technical and behavioral interviews for senior- and lead-level engineers (Full Stack, Backend, Frontend, or Data).\n\nAssess alignment with Empirical’s values and client expectations.\n\nEvaluate technical proficiency, problem-solving approach, and communication clarity.\n\nUse Empirical’s standardized guides, rubrics, and live coding challenges to ensure consistent, high-quality evaluations.\n\nDocument insights and provide written feedback.\n\nCollaborate with the Talent Acquisition team to refine rubrics and maintain consistent standards.\n\nReport to Empirical’s Engineering Manager to align on technical scope, interview quality, and continuous improvements.\n\nWhat we’re looking for\nSenior or Lead Engineer with strong, hands-on product development experience.\n\nPassion for mentoring, evaluating, and supporting other engineers.\n\nClear and empathetic communicator with a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset.\n\nFluent in English (written and verbal, as interviews and feedback will be in English fully).\n\nFlexibility/Availability to conduct 1-1.5-hour interviews on weekdays within LATAM or US Eastern working hours.\n\nAlignment with Empirical’s values: care, value, and integrity.\n\nTechnical background:\nCommon technologies you’ll encounter include JavaScript, TypeScript, Python (occasionally Go), React, Next.js, Node.js, NestJS, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Redis, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines.\n\nArchitecture topics often include REST/GraphQL APIs, microservices, event-driven systems, and system design.\n\nNice to have:\n\nExperience
