Working within the Agency's governed data warehouse environment (dbt + Amazon Redshift), the Senior Data Analyst develops complex SQL queries, designs and maintains trusted reports and dashboards using Tableau and Hex, and transforms data into actionable insights. This role goes beyond reporting by identifying trends, evaluating business impacts, and providing clear, data-driven recommendations that support strategic decision making across the organization. Over time, this role will grow toward advanced, AI-assisted data visualization and storytelling as we mature that capability in-house. We’re looking for someone who pairs analytical rigor with strong business judgment and a commitment to bringing top-quality work to the nonprofit social services sector.\nPosition Details\nPosition:Senior Data Analyst\nReports To:Director of Data and Digital Systems\nDepartment:Technology\nEmployment Type:Full-Time, Exempt\nLocation:Remote\nKey Responsibilities\nPartner with program, operations, and leadership stakeholders to translate business questions into analyses that drive decisions.\nWork with leadership and program managers to draft and maintain data reports and analytics for external publication/distribution.\nWrite advanced SQL to explore, transform, and validate data on top of the governed dbt + Redshift warehouse and its semantic layer.\nBuild and maintain trusted, refreshable reports and dashboards in Tableau and Hex\nTurn dashboards into narratives that a non-technical audience can understand and act on.\nDeliver actionable insights and clear recommendations for executive, funder, and government audiences.\nOwn analysis accuracy: reconcile every metric against its warehouse / semantic-layer source and maintain a reusable verification/QA checklist before anything is shared.\nDefine and maintain reporting standards and a lightweight, brand-aligned visual style: consistent metric definitions, disciplined chart selection, and clear labeling.\nSupport secure, PII-aware delivery of reports to both internal and external audiences.\nApply advanced SQL techniques (PARTITION, LOD-style logic) to solve complex, multi-dimensional analytical problems for stakeholders.\nAs the capability matures, contribute to advanced, AI-assisted data storytelling and custom visualization-a growth path for this role.\nQualifications\nQualifications\nBasic Qualifications\n5+ years in data analysis, business intelligence, or a comparable role, with a track record of delivering insights that influenced real decisions.\nAdvanced SQL - PARTITION, geospatial, JSON-parsing, and performance tuning\nAdvanced BI and dashboarding proficiency in Tableau (LOD expressions, parameters, publishing) and/or Hex.\nExperience working from a governed data warehouse-Redshift or comparable-and comfort with dbt / semantic-layer concepts (metric definitions, grain, data contracts).\nStrong data-storytelling skills: framing exploratory vs. explanatory views, disciplined chart selection, annotation, and a clear “so what.”\nStrong business acumen-able to connect analysis to organizational goals and surface practical, actionable recommendations.\nRigorous source-verification habits and attention to data accuracy.\nExcellent written and verbal communication; able to work directly with executive and external stakeholders.\nPreferred Qualifications\nHands-on experience applying AI to analytics work-e.g., using AI-assisted tools (Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) or LLMs to accelerate SQL, analysis, or reporting-with sound judgment about verifying AI output.
