3M

3M is an American industrial conglomerate founded in 1902 as a failed mining venture that reinvented itself around abrasives and then around adhesives, producing masking tape, Scotch tape and Post-it notes along the way. It now sells tens of thousands of products across safety equipment, industrial adhesives and abrasives, electronics materials, filtration and consumer goods, built on a research culture that lets scientists spend part of their time on unassigned work. Headquartered in Saint Paul, Minnesota, it separated its healthcare business as Solventum in 2024 and has spent recent years settling very large earplug and chemical liabilities.
