Each internship opportunity will occur during the summer months, (11 weeks), focused on a specific functional area, and will provide the candidate with a depth experience within the area, culminating in a project presentation to functional leaders. Each intern will work closely with a coach who will meet regularly to discuss project progress, provide direction and ongoing feedback. In addition, each intern will attend a lunch series which will provide a cross-functional view into the organization and give the interns exposure to senior leadership. The interns will also have the experience of touring a store and learning about our distribution systems.\n7-Eleven, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Construction Management Intern to support its New Store Development team in the planning, budgeting, and execution of new-to-industry convenience store construction projects. This internship offers hands-on experience in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment where multiple projects are managed simultaneously from preconstruction through completion.\nThe intern will work alongside experienced construction and development professionals to gain practical knowledge of construction estimating, project scheduling, budget management, subcontractor coordination, and field operations. This position provides an opportunity to see how new convenience stores are developed and delivered while learning the business, technical, and organizational skills necessary for a career in construction management.\nKey Responsibilities:\nConstruction Estimating: Assist with reviewing construction plans, specifications, and project documents to develop cost estimates, evaluate subcontractor bids, and identify opportunities for cost efficiencies.\nProject Scheduling: Support the development, maintenance, and tracking of construction schedules to ensure projects remain on schedule and key milestones are achieved.\nBudget Management: Assist in establishing project budgets, tracking construction costs, reviewing invoices and change orders, and monitoring commitments against approved budgets.\nProject Coordination: Collaborate with construction managers, architects, engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to support the successful execution of new store projects.\nPreconstruction Planning: Assist with reviewing site plans, construction drawings, scopes of work, and project specifications to identify potential challenges before construction begins.\nConstruction Progress Monitoring: Participate in project site visits to observe construction progress, evaluate schedule performance, and gain exposure to quality control, site logistics, and field operations.\nReporting and Documentation: Maintain project trackers, update budgets and schedules, organize project documentation, and prepare reports communicating project status, risks, and outstanding issues.\nProblem Solving: Help identify construction challenges, evaluate potential solutions, and support the implementation of corrective actions in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.\nProcess Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve project coordination, reporting, cost tracking, and construction management processes.\nCross-Functional Collaboration: Gain exposure to the relationship between construction, real estate, design, permitting, procurement, and store development operations.\nQualifications:\nCurrently pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Business, or a related field and graduating either December 2027 or May 2028. \nStrong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.\nInterest in construction estimating, project scheduling, budgeting, and project management.\nProficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; familiarity with construction scheduling or estimating software is a plus.\nAbility to manage multiple assignments, prioritize competing deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.\nWillingness to learn, take initiative, and collaborate with teams across multiple disciplines.\nAbility to participate in construction site visits as needed.\nLearning Objectives and Career Development:\nThroughout the summer, the intern will gain practical experience in the full lifecycle of new-to-industry convenience store development, from initial planning and estimating through construction and project delivery. The intern will develop an understanding of how cost, schedule, quality, and scope are managed to achieve successful project outcomes.\nBy the conclusion of the internship, the successful candidate will have a stronger understanding of commercial construction operations, project financials, scheduling methodologies, stakeholder management, and the importance of proactive communication and accountability in delivering projects on time and within budget.\nAbout the Opportunity:\nThis internship is designed for an individual who wants to learn by doing, contribute to meaningful projects, and experience the pace and complexity of a large-scale retail construction program.
