Smith is headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with approximately 12,000 employees at operations in the United States, Canada, China, India, Mexico, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.\nPrimary Function\nThe Accountant I will perform a variety of activities in the preparation, examination, and interpretation of accounting and financial records, reports, and statements. The incumbent will be involved with the general ledger, budget, month end closing, and other cost/financial analyses compliant with all company and GAAP policies.\nResponsibilities\nAssemble plant expense analysis and report updates to the staff on a regular basis. Coordinate the accounts payable function for all plant operations.\nPrepare bank reconciliations for all operating, disbursement, payroll, and investment accounts.\nPrepare specific monthly journal entries, sales tax returns, and warranty expense account analysis.\nAnalyze and reconcile any discrepancies within the general accounting functions. Will report on utility use, expenditures, etc. and provide analysis for senior management review.\nSettle and close production orders, investigate production variances.\nProvide research assistance as required and respond to inquiries and requests from internal sources.\nAssist as backup for payroll, daily invoicing, and sales updating. Provide payroll approval.\nObserve all procedures and policies in accordance with GAAP, company policy, and federal/state regulations. \nReview all purchase orders and provide updates to the plant manager regarding exceptions and expense levels.\nReconcile all expenses to budget.\nProvide internal financial audits and cycle count audits - issue reporting.\nPrepare trial balance analysis.\nPerform other activities as needed or as requested.\nQualifications\nBachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field\nInternship, co-op, or 1-2 years of accounting experience preferred.\nStrong Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis).\nExperience with ERP systems preferred (SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, Infor, Epicor, NetSuite, etc.).\nManufacturing or inventory accounting exposure preferred but not required.\nAdditional Qualifications\nSAP knowledge a plus\nWe Offer\nCompetitive compensation package and comprehensive benefits plans which include medical and dental insurance, company-sponsored life insurance, retirement security savings plan, short- and long-term disability programs and tuition assistance.\nADA Statement & EEO Statement\nIn developing this job description care was taken to include all competencies needed to successfully perform in this position.
