Smith is headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with approximately 12,000 employees at operations in the United States, Canada, China, India, Mexico, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.\nThis role is based in our McBee, SC facility.\nPrimary Function\nThis position provides technical leadership for welding and robotic welding operations, ensuring compliance and driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, training, productivity, and cost performance.\nResponsibilities\nASME and AWS Code application and interpretations\nASME Code procedure and personnel performance qualifications\nDiagnose welding equipment for proper functionality\nProvide Technical guidance and assistance to welding operators\nManage welding training program toward ASME certification for new and existing welding operators.\nWrite and develop all PQRs, WPSs, and WPQs for ASME code vessels and maintain records.\nDevelop welding procedures in compliance with ISO 9002 standards\nWelding Engineer-Robotic welding experience required\nDevelop new or modified current welding, robotic, and assembly methods, techniques, and procedures.\nDiscover new patterns of welding and robotic technology.\nPrepares technical reports from research, development, and preventative maintenance investigations.\nEstablish weld procedures to guide the production team regarding specifications/processes.\nEvaluate new welding and robotic field developments for possible application to current welding and robotic problems or production processes.\nCoordinate and manage welding technical personnel in performing daily inspections of welding equipment to ensure workers' compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards\nWork with training coordinator and operations teams to ensure training is relevant and practical and monitor training program to verify all documentation is up to date\nPerforms experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials.\nAssist in developing and maintaining work instructions in compliance with QMS requirements.\nResponsible for interfacing with internal/external customers\nAuthorized to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities relating to product, process, and quality system.\nAbility to troubleshoot shop floor weld, robotic, and assembly issues and quickly identify necessary countermeasures.\nQualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field, from an accredited university or college.
