Join us and help revolutionize energy for a sustainable future.\nAbout the role\nAs an experienced Field Engineer on the Field Operations team, you will serve as the technical bridge between Engineering and the field, translating engineering intent into safe, practical, and executable field work. You will provide technical leadership for equipment installation, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and modification at Aalo facilities and other project locations, including Aalo-0, Aalo-X, and reactor deployment sites.\nThis is a hands-on role. You will work alongside field personnel, resolve technical issues at the point of execution, and own the producibility and field-readiness of assigned work. Success depends on combining disciplined engineering judgment with practical execution, clear communication, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to advance Field Operations and Aalo as a whole.\nResponsibilities\nPlan, coordinate, and support the installation, commissioning, testing, operation, maintenance, repair, and modification of mechanical equipment, machinery, and integrated systems.\nReview and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, schematics, procedures, work instructions, vendor documentation, and acceptance criteria before and during field execution.\nTranslate design requirements into practical work plans, task sequencing, tooling needs, material requirements, inspection points, and field-ready instructions.\nProvide direct technical support to Field Operations personnel, craft workers, vendors, and project teams during field activities.\nIdentify, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment, installation, fabrication, alignment, fit-up, interface, and performance issues encountered in the field.\nVerify field conditions, collect measurements and technical data, document discrepancies, and communicate conditions that may affect design intent, safety, quality, schedule, or operability.\nSupport inspections, functional testing, diagnostics, performance verification, turnover, and closeout activities; document results and outstanding items.\nCoordinate with design engineering, manufacturing, quality, licensing, construction, testing, and reactor operations to keep design intent and field execution aligned.\nSupport the development and revision of field procedures, work packages, work instructions, lift plans, test plans, technical reports, redlines, punch lists, and as-built documentation.\nManage technical questions through the appropriate review and approval process, and ensure unauthorized field changes are not incorporated into the work.\nLead or support pre-job briefs, task walkdowns, hazard reviews, readiness reviews, and post-job critiques for assigned activities.\nProvide technical direction and mentoring to field personnel while respecting established supervisory, quality, and work-control responsibilities.\nTravel to company facilities, vendor locations, construction sites, and test sites, including on short notice when operational needs require.\nBasic Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering (or a closely related field), OR equivalent hands-on field/technical experience.\n10+ years of field engineering, installation, commissioning, or comparable hands-on hardware experience.\nAbility to read and interpret mechanical drawings, GD&T callouts, weld symbols, schematics, and specifications.\nStrong mechanical aptitude and sound engineering judgment, with the ability to solve real-world problems safely at the point of execution.\nBasic familiarity with powered and manual tools.\nStrong ownership mindset and clear communication; comfortable working with ambiguity in a fast-iterating environment.\nAir-travel-compliant form of ID and a valid Driver's License.\nPreferred Experience\nExperience in nuclear, aerospace, defense, semiconductor, or other high-reliability regulated industries.\nHands-on skills in one or more of: welding, machining, assembly, rigging, or field inspection.\nExperience with commissioning, functional testing, and turnover of mechanical systems.\nFamiliarity with configuration control, work-control processes, and as-built documentation.\nHeavy equipment or material-handling equipment operation experience.\nExperience supporting on-site installation and commissioning across multiple project locations.\nPhysical Requirements\nComfortable working on the factory floor and in industrial, construction, and remote field environments alongside technicians, welders, and operators.\nPhysically fit for duty - capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and standing, climbing ladders, and working for extended periods while wearing PPE.\nWillingness to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather or environmental conditions when trained and authorized.\nWillingness to perform hands-on field and assembly work.\nRequirements\nMust be based in the United States.\nMust be willing to work on-site at our headquarters in Austin, Texas.\nAble to travel (at Aalo's expense) to out-of-state locations in the continental U.S., including on short notice and for extended assignments.\nWhat It Takes to Succeed at Aalo\nWe're building technology that will help reshape the future of energy.
