Join us and let's build the future together.\nAbout the Role\nThe Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Forward Deployed (AWS & Databricks) is a senior individual contributor responsible for production operations, incident response, and post-launch system reliability across Abacus Insights’ platform.\nThis role blends:\nSRE and production operations\nSWAT-style deep technical problem solving\nForward-deployed, customer-facing technical work\nHands-on software development and automation\nYou will own the most complex, ambiguous, and high-impact production issues, particularly those involving AWS infrastructure, Databricks workloads, and large-scale data pipelines. You will work directly with customers on escalations and deployments, while ensuring learnings are translated back into durable product and platform improvements.\nThis is a hands-on role. You are expected to lead technically during incidents, debug live systems, and write production code where it meaningfully improves reliability and operability.\nYour day to day\nProduction Operations & Incident Response\nAct as a senior technical escalation point during production incidents\nLead real-time incident triage, mitigation, and recovery efforts\nDrive root cause analysis (RCA) with a focus on systemic, long-term fixes\nIdentify recurring failure patterns and push for architectural or operational improvements\nPartner with Customer Success and Engineering to manage customer impact during incidents\nSustaining Engineering & Post-Launch Ownership\nOwn post-launch reliability, stability, and operational quality of core systems\nInvestigate and resolve complex field issues and production defects\nEnsure fixes developed during incidents or customer escalations are up streamed into the core product\nImprove operational readiness of services through better runbooks, monitoring, and alerting\nReduce operational toil by converting repeated manual work into automation\nForward Deployed / Customer-Facing Engineering\nEngage directly with strategic customers to solve real-world, production-grade technical challenges\nSupport complex deployments, integrations, and escalations in customer environments\nAct as a trusted technical partner to customers during high-impact issues\nTranslate customer learnings into concrete product, platform, and operational improvements\nContribute to reusable tools, playbooks, and best practices that accelerate future deployments\nAWS & Databricks Technical Expertise\nServe as a subject matter expert for AWS-hosted production systems\nTroubleshoot and resolve issues across:AWS compute, storage, networking, IAM, and security\nDatabricks jobs, clusters, and Spark-based data pipelines\n\nDebug performance degradation, scalability issues, job failures, and data correctness problems\nPartner with platform and data teams to harden systems for reliability, scale, and operability\nSoftware Development & Automation\nWrite production-quality code to:Automate operational workflows\nImprove reliability and observability\nEliminate manual intervention and reduce incident frequency\n\nContribute primarily in Python, with exposure to JVM-based systems as needed\nReview code with a strong emphasis on operability, resiliency, and maintainability\nAdvocate for “build it so it can be operated” engineering standards\nTechnical Leadership & Collaboration\nProvide technical leadership without formal authority, influencing design and operational decisions\nMentor engineers through pairing, reviews, and incident leadership\nCollaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Data, and Customer teams\nOperate effectively in high-pressure, ambiguous environments, especially during customer-impacting incidents\nWhat you bring to the team \n10+ years of experience in software engineering, SRE, sustaining engineering, or production operations\nDeep hands-on experience operating production systems in AWS\nStrong experience troubleshooting Databricks and large-scale data platforms\nProficiency in Python and experience building production services or tooling\nStrong understanding of:Distributed systems\nIncident management and RCA practices\nMonitoring, alerting, and observability\nCI/CD Pipelines that leverage Infrastructure as Code.\n\nProven ability to own problems end-to-end, from detection to permanent resolution\nExcellent communication skills, especially during incidents and customer escalations\nAbility to work backward from customer impact to root cause across systems and codebases, delivering fixes in environments with minimal documentation.\nStrong instinct for operational risk, with the ability to proactively identify failure modes and harden systems before they impact customers.\nWhat we would like to see, but not required\nExperience in healthcare, health insurance, or regulated data environments\nFamiliarity with:Kubernetes (EKS), EMR, Lambda\nSpark internals\nSnowflake or similar data warehouses\n\nExperience with FHIR, MDM systems, or entity resolution\nPrior experience in SWAT, escalation engineering, or tiger-team roles\nExperience contributing to or operating within SRE/on-call programs\nCompensation: Compensation for this role is based on experience, skills, and location, and includes base salary plus eligibility for performance bonuses and equity grants.\nWhat you’ll get in return:\nUnlimited paid time off -
