Join us and help run what runs the world.\nThis position reports to:\nEngineering Section Manager__\nWe are seeking an experienced Lead ICSS Engineer to lead the technical delivery of Integrated Control & Safety System (ICSS) projects across national and international energy and industrial sectors. Here, your work creates impact you can see and feel, every day.\nYour Role and Responsibilities\nIn this role, you’ll help run what runs the world, by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact.\nLead and coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering teams of up to 10 engineers, managing workloads, mentoring team members, and promoting engineering best practices.\n\nDeliver ICSS engineering solutions across the full project lifecycle, including design, configuration, testing, commissioning, and technical close-out activities.\n\nAct as the technical authority for assigned projects, reviewing and approving engineering deliverables and ensuring compliance with safety, cybersecurity, quality, and contractual requirements.\n\nWork closely with Project Managers and customers to define technical solutions, resolve engineering challenges, manage risks, and ensure successful project execution.\n\nSupport project planning through the development of engineering estimates, resource plans, work schedules, and cost forecasts.\n\nProvide technical leadership during installation, commissioning, start-up, and site activities, resolving technical issues and supporting successful system deployment.\n\nEngage directly with customers, contractors, suppliers, and ABB product development centres to manage technical queries, presentations, bid clarifications, and engineering change requests.\n\nDrive continuous improvement through knowledge sharing, coaching, design excellence, lessons learned, and the application of standard engineering processes and tools.\n\nWork model: hybrid from our St Neots location {#LI-hybrid}\nQualifications for the Role\nDegree qualified in Engineering (or HNC/HND with significant relevant experience) and ideally working towards Chartered Engineer status.\n\nProven experience leading engineering teams and delivering ICSS, DCS, PCS, ESD, and Fire & Gas (F&G) projects within the Energy, Oil & Gas, or Process Industries.\n\nStrong expertise in the design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of Integrated Control & Safety Systems.\n\nExcellent knowledge of industrial communication protocols and standards, including Modbus, Profibus, and Profinet.\n\nStrong understanding of engineering governance, including safety, cybersecurity, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance requirements.\n\nDemonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and stakeholders while delivering solutions on time and within budget.\n\nEffective leadership, coaching, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop and support engineering teams.\n\nExcellent communication and customer-facing skills, with experience collaborating across customers, suppliers, contractors, and internal project teams.\n\nBenefits\nABB offers a full range of benefits to help you thrive at work and beyond.\nCompetitive salary\n\n25 days annual leave plus bank holidays\n\nCompetitive contributory pension scheme\n\nLife assurance\n\nFlexible benefits scheme (Includes options to buy/sell holidays, health checks, dental, eye care, gym memberships, cycle to work, gadget discounts and more)\n\nInternal mobility opportunities, mentorships & access to projects globally\n\nEmployee Assistance Programme\n\nGenerous employee referral scheme\n\nPrivate medical cover\n\nGenerous bonus scheme\n\nFor the 6th consecutive year ABB UK has been recognised as a Top Employer in UK.
