Join us and help run what runs the world.\nThis position reports to:\nR&D Team Lead__\nIn this role, you will join the Product Care team within ABB Smart Buildings, contributing to the continuous improvement and evolution of our People Protection product portfolio. You will work across the product development cycle, from concept generation and 3D design to engineering analysis, prototyping, testing, and industrialization support. You will collaborate with experienced engineers and manufacturing teams, applying modern engineering tools, digital technologies, and Artificial Intelligence solutions to solve technical challenges and improve product development processes.\nThe work model for the role is: Hybrid #Li-Hybrid\nThis is a temporary contract position.\nThis role is contributing to the People Protection product portfolio within ABB Smart Buildings in Vittuone (Milan), Italy. Main stakeholders are R&D, Product Care, Quality, Operations, Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering, laboratories, and suppliers.\nYou will be mainly accountable for:\nSupporting Product Care activities for existing products, ensuring technical robustness, quality, competitiveness, and continuous improvement.\nDeveloping and modifying 3D CAD models and technical documentation, as well as performing engineering studies and simulations to evaluate product performance, reliability, and manufacturability.\nDesigning, building, and validating prototypes in collaboration with laboratories, suppliers, and manufacturing teams, while supporting root cause analysis and cost reduction initiatives.\nExploring and applying new technologies, materials, digital engineering methods, and AI-based approaches to improve design efficiency, problem solving, and product development processes.\nQualifications for the role\nMaster's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent Engineering qualification.\nGood knowledge of 3D CAD design, with experience in CATIA V5 or Creo highly appreciated.\nBasic knowledge of engineering simulations, such as structural, thermal, or multiphysics analysis, with experience in prototype development, testing, or product validation considered an advantage.\nInterest in Digital Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and data-driven product development; knowledge of MATLAB is a plus.\nKnowledge of SAP and PLM/PDM systems, together with good command of Microsoft Office tools.\nYou are interested in engineering, problem solving, and continuous improvement, with a curious, motivated mindset and willingness to learn in a collaborative international environment.\nYou are comfortable communicating in Italian and English, both written and spoken.\nCompensation Package\nAs part of our commitment to transparency, we want to share the compensation details for this position:\nApplicable CBA: Metalmeccanico\nMinimum annual salary: € 36.000\nVariable Pay: Eligible for Company Productivity Bonus\nThe offer will be tailored based on your role location, experience, skills and qualifications, internal market positioning and alignment with ABB internal standards.\nBuilding a cleaner, smarter future takes all kinds of minds: the curious, the courageous, and the creative.
