Join us and help run what runs the world.\nThis position reports to:\nR&D Team Lead__\nYour role and responsibilities\nWe are looking for an R&D Engineer to design, develop and maintain test infrastructures for Research & Development activities. Reporting to the CoE Laboratory Manager the candidate will work on low voltage (LV) 3-phase systems compliant with both IEC and UL standards, taking full ownership of electrical design, embedded firmware development, and laboratory validation.\nThe work model for the role is: onsite\nThis role is contributing to the Electrification, Smart Power Division in Quartino, CH.\nYou will be mainly accountable for:\nDesign, develop, and maintain electrical test infrastructures for low-voltage (LV) three-phase systems, supporting product development, validation, and certification activities in accordance with IEC and UL standards.\nDevelop and validate embedded firmware and control solutions, including C-based applications and PLC programming, for laboratory and testing environments.\nPlan and execute functional, performance, and safety testing on hardware prototypes and test setups, ensuring reliable operation and compliance with applicable standards.\nCollaborate with cross-functional R&D teams to define requirements, solve technical challenges, and maintain accurate technical documentation throughout the development lifecycle.\nQualifications for the role\nBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.\nExperience in embedded firmware development using C for microcontroller- or microprocessor-based systems.\nKnowledge of low-voltage three-phase electrical systems, power distribution, power conversion, or UPS technologies.\nExperience in electrical design, testing, validation, or commissioning of electrical and electronic systems.\nFamiliarity with PLC programming and industrial automation concepts.\nAbility to analyze technical requirements, troubleshoot complex issues, and work in a hands-on laboratory environment.\nStrong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.\nProfessional proficiency in English; additional language skills are considered an advantage.\nMore about us\nABB Smart Power provides energy distribution solutions for data centers, industrial and manufacturing plants, critical infrastructure and commercial buildings.
