Join us and help run what runs the world.\nThis position reports to:\nElectrical Engineering Manager__\nYour role and responsibilities\nABB is seeking a Senior Lead Project Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will provide technical leadership and oversee the successful execution of multidisciplinary electrical engineering projects from concept through commissioning. As the Lead Electrical Engineer on assigned projects, you will coordinate engineering activities across multiple disciplines, ensure technical excellence, manage engineering scope and deliverables, and serve as the primary technical interface for customers, project managers, and internal stakeholders.\nThe work model for the role is: Hybrid #LI-Hybrid\nThis role is contributing to the Automation Energy Industries division in either Houston, TX or Calgary, Alberta, Canada.\nYou will be mainly accountable for:\nLead and support engineering projects, ensuring successful delivery through effective technical leadership, coordination, and adherence to project scope, schedule, and quality expectations.\nDevelop, review, and approve electrical engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with project requirements, applicable codes, industry standards, and ABB engineering practices.\nLead customer technical meetings, design reviews, and interdisciplinary engineering coordination meetings.\nManage engineering scope, technical risks, engineering schedules, and change management activities in collaboration with Project Management.\nSupport factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning, and startup activities as required.\nCoordinate and provide technical oversight of multi-discipline vendors and subcontractors, ensuring alignment with project requirements, engineering standards, schedules, and overall project objectives.\nSupport proposal development, engineering estimates, technical risk assessments, and engineering execution planning.\nAdditional tasks with varying scope depending on experience level:\nPerform and review power system studies (e.g., short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, load flow) to support protection design and validate system performance.\nCreate and review substation and electrical building integration design packages and follow those projects from the conceptual stage to construction completion.\nDevelop and review protection and control system designs, including relay selection, protection philosophies, settings development, configuration, and coordination.\nDesign/review/implementation of power management systems (PMS).\nOur team dynamics\nOur teams support each other, collaborate, and never stop learning. Being part of our team means your work matters - because the progress we make here creates real impact out there.\nQualifications for the role:\nBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.\n5 or more years of experience in electrical engineering, with demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary engineering projects.\nExtensive experience in at least two of the following technical areas:Power system studies and associated software (ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, EasyPower)\nSubstation and electrical building design.\nProtection and control system design, including relay applications, settings, and integration.\nIndustrial automation systems, including power management systems (PMS), SCADA, or distributed control systems (DCS).\n\nStrong understanding of relevant industry standards and codes (IEEE, NFPA, NEC, ANSI, IEC, or equivalent as applicable).\nDemonstrated experience serving as the Lead Electrical Engineer or Engineering Lead on complex engineering projects.\nProven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinate technical execution across multiple concurrent projects.\nExcellent technical problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.\nAbility to mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance within the team.\nProfessional Engineering designation (PE) preferred.\nWhat's in it for you?\nWorking at ABB offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across the full spectrum of power system engineering.
