The Database Specialist is responsible for supporting the stability, performance, availability, and security of Microsoft SQL Server environments. This role performs routine database administration activities, assists with troubleshooting and incident resolution, supports database changes and deployments, and contributes to the continuous improvement of database operations while adhering to established governance, compliance, and security standards.\nWhat You'll Do\nExecute routine database administration activities, including backups, restores, integrity checks, index maintenance, and statistics updates.\n\nMonitor database health, performance, availability, and storage capacity across SQL Server environments.\n\nPerform scheduled maintenance activities and support patching and system updates.\n\nRespond to database incidents, troubleshoot failures, connectivity issues, and performance concerns, and resolve standard operational issues.\n\nEscalate complex technical issues with appropriate analysis and diagnostics.\n\nFulfill service requests related to user access, database restores, and data updates.\n\nAssist with schema modifications, including tables, views, and stored procedures.\n\nSupport application releases, deployments, database migrations, and non-production environment activities.\n\nExecute database changes following established change management processes.\n\nIdentify and troubleshoot slow-running queries and performance bottlenecks.\n\nApply basic performance tuning techniques, including query optimization and index improvements.\n\nManage database security by supporting user roles, permissions, and authentication controls.\n\nSupport audit, validation, and compliance activities, including documentation requirements.\n\nMaintain operational documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), runbooks, and knowledge articles.\n\nContribute to root cause analysis efforts and recommend opportunities for process improvements.\n\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.\n\n1-4 years of experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server environments.\n\nKnowledge of T-SQL querying and database fundamentals.\n\nUnderstanding of database backup, recovery, and maintenance processes.\n\nBasic knowledge of indexing, query performance, and database optimization concepts.\n\nFamiliarity with monitoring tools and ticket management systems.\n\nUnderstanding of database security concepts, including roles, permissions, and authentication.\n\nStrong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.\n\nAbility to work effectively within established operational procedures and collaborate with global teams.\n\nAdvanced English proficiency (written and verbal), with the ability to effectively communicate with global stakeholders\n\nWork Model: Hybrid (4 days onsite, 1 day remote)\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nMicrosoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300).\n\nMicrosoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900).\n\nMicrosoft Certified: Data Fundamentals (DP-900).\n\nITIL Foundation Certification.\n\nCompTIA Data+ or Network+ certification.\n\nExperience supporting regulated environments and compliance-driven operations.\n\nExperience with PowerShell or automation scripting.\n\nExposure to Azure SQL or cloud database technologies.\n\nApply now\nFollow your career aspirations to Abbott for diverse opportunities with a company that can help you build your future and live your best life.
