Our Neuromodulation business includes implantable devices compatible with mobile technology to help people who suffer from chronic pain and movement disorders. These non-opioid therapies allow us to provide interventional pain therapy to patients throughout the pain continuum.\nIt sounds like science fiction: sending small electrical pulses to the spine to block pain signals or to the brain to suppress tremor. We value people with great ideas who partner with others both internally and externally to take action and accomplish goals.\nWhat You’ll Work On:\nResearches, develops, designs, and evaluates mechanical and electro-mechanical materials, components, assemblies, processes and/or equipment for implantable neurostimulation devices\nConceptualizes new devices using material knowledge and innovative mechanical design\nDevelops new concepts from initial design to market release with cross-functional partners\nCreates and submits novel design solutions that expand the intellectual property of the business\nConducts feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality\nBalances design for reliability, manufacturing, and cost efficiency\nMaintains detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development\nPrepares technical reports, analyses, recommendations, and presentations reflecting the status and results of projects in progress\nParticipates/contributes to technical reviews of mechanical designs\nReviews and coordinates vendor activities to support development and validation of device components\nEstablishes and cultivates an extensive network of support to facilitate completion of assignments\nExercises judgment in selecting innovative, practical methods to achieve problem resolution\nExhibits and instills decision-making based in objective engineering principles (analytical and empirical)\nDevelops test methods, models, fixtures, and tools to evaluate designs\nMulti-tasks, prioritizes, and meets deadlines in a timely manner\nIdentifies, communicates, and mitigates project risks\nBuilds and maintains positive and cooperative relationships internally and externally\nEnsures compliance to all applicable internal requirements and external regulations\nPosition may require up to 10% travel\nRequired Qualifications:\nBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related technical discipline\n5+ years of relevant development or R&D experience (preferably with implantable leads or catheters)\nHands-on experience taking mechanical subsystems from prototype through design verification and into production\nExperience with CAD and FEA modeling software (SolidWorks, ANSYS preferred)\nExperience in developing fabricated parts and assemblies - from rapid prototyping to production (CNC machining, injection molding, thermoforming, extrusion, sheet metal, etc.)\nProduct development experience within a regulated industry (e.g. medical, aerospace, automotive, etc.)\nExperience working with cross-functional teams and taking initiative to ensure successful outcomes\nExcellent oral and written communication skills\nPreferred Qualifications:\nAdvanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related technical discipline\nDemonstrated hands-on experience designing for manufacturing processes used in implantable leads or catheters (e.g. biocompatible material selection, extrusion, coiling, braiding, welding, molding, lamination, bonding, etc.)\nFamiliarity with typical lead and catheter materials such as polyurethanes, silicones, and high strength conductor alloys like MP35N and 35NLT\nLead design and development experience (neuromodulation, cardiac, cochlear, or other relevant application)\nStrong history of cross-functional collaboration with other engineering disciplines (Clinical, Electrical, Manufacturing)\nExperience with statistical techniques (e.g. DOE, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, etc.)\nKnowledge of design controls and regulations for medical device development\nApply Now\nLearn more about our health and wellness benefits, which provide the security to help you and your family live full lives:www.abbottbenefits.com\nFollow your career aspirations to Abbott for diverse opportunities with a company that can help you build your future and live your best life.
