The Supervisor, Specimen Processing is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Specimen Processing Department; including, but not limited to, staffing, scheduling, timecard management, motivating, coaching, mentoring, and performance management. The Supervisor, Specimen Processing follows all Laboratory policies and procedures and maintains accurate data reporting practices to ensure consistent and diligent execution of Specimen Processing. This role supports the mission and vision of Abbott Cancer Diagnostics Laboratories and shares the responsibility of ensuring the Specimen Processing department operates effectively. The functions of this position are performed under the guided direction of the Specimen Processing Manager or designee.\nShift: Sat - Mon, 6a - 630p - Tues, 1pm - 5pm\nWhat You’ll Work On\nEffectively lead and empower staff to meet quality and productivity goals set for the shift and department.\nManage daily shift operations; including but not limited to organizing efficient workflow, redirecting staff, maintaining adequate lab equipment and delegating tasks.\nOrganize and lead routine team meetings and 1 on 1 employee meetings.\nSupport and coach direct reports through career and professional development.\nMonitor and provide feedback on employee performance metrics including, but not limited to, attendance, productivity and quality.\nPrepare and conduct employee feedback and disciplinary action in accordance with Abbott Cancer Diagnostics Laboratories policy, as needed.\nManage and maintain shift staffing levels in collaboration with the clinical laboratory management team.\nEffectively interview and recruit employees that meet and exceed our core values.\nInvestigate and resolve test record and automation problems in accordance with policies and procedures to maintain expected sample turnaround time.\nPerform root cause analysis when process deviations occur to identify the root cause of the deviation and recommend corrective and preventive actions as applicable.\nSupport and comply with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.\nMaintain documentation of problems and problem resolutions following Good Documentation Practices (GDP).\nWork with leadership to develop department goals that align with organizational priorities.\nSupport operational initiatives including, but not limited to, quality and process improvements, SOP development, department inspections and audits.\nSupport and occasionally lead cross-functional initiatives across multiple departments.\nAssist and support the Clinical Lab Training Department; including, but not limited to, reviewing department specific training materials, identifying additional training needs/resources, and providing cross-training, as needed.\nSupport all clinical laboratory operations, including bench work when needed.\nHandle and dispose of all specimens following standard precautions and applicable safety policies.\nGeneral knowledge and understanding other sites within the same city, as needed.\nRequired Qualifications\nAssociate degree in Life Sciences, Business, or related field; or High School Degree/General Education Diploma and 2 years relevant experience in lieu of degree.\n3+ years of experience working in a laboratory, medical or high throughput production environment.\n2+ years of leadership experience.\n2+ years using computers to include Internet navigation, email usage, MS Office.\nDemonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.\nAuthorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.\nPreferred Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, or field related to the essential duties of the job.\n3+ years of lab experience/education program in a lab providing moderate or high complexity testing.\nKnowledge and understanding of CAP, GLP, GDP, CLIA, New York Department of Health (NYDOH), and HIPAA.\nExperience in troubleshooting automation and performing instrument maintenance.\nLean experience (Kaizen, Kanban, root cause analysis, countermeasure implementation, etc.).\nLeadership experience working with large teams (>30
