AbbVie is an American biopharmaceutical company created in 2013 when Abbott Laboratories separated its research-based drug business into a standalone listed company. It was built around the immunology drug Humira, once the highest selling medicine in the world, and has since replaced that revenue with the successor immunology drugs Skyrizi and Rinvoq, an oncology portfolio led by Imbruvica and Venclexta, neuroscience products including Botox Therapeutic and Vraylar, and the aesthetics business acquired with Allergan. Headquartered in North Chicago and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, it is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies by revenue.

We have an opportunity for a Scientific Content Specialist to join AbbVie Canada's Internal Agency, Customer Excellence. In this role, you will research, write, adapt, and manage scientifically accurate content for commercial and medical materials across multiple channels and audiences, including healthcare professionals and patients. Working within a growing internal agency, you will combine strong scientific writing, referencing, and content-authoring skills with AI-assisted workflows to efficiently repurpose approved content while maintaining brand consistency and regulatory and medical-legal compliance. You will collaborate closely with a cross-functional team, collaborate with freelancers, and help shape the Internal Agency’s expanding content capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adapt scientific content for multichannel promotional materials, including emails, leave-behinds, posters, websites, and brochures, while maintaining brand consistency and regulatory/medical-legal compliance (e.g., PAAB) for a variety of audiences, including HCPs and patients
  • Creation of commercial and medical materials, including initial research, writing, referencing, editing and the creation and oversight of reference decks and grids
  • Work directly in content authoring software (e.g., eWizard, Canva, or similar platforms) to build, format, and manage promotional assets end to end.
  • Leverage generative AI tools to efficiently adapt and repurpose content from existing approved materials across formats and channels, while ensuring scientific accuracy, in accordance with AbbVie's guidelines.
  • Proof, edit, and proactively review content to ensure scientific accuracy and consistency with copy, referencing, and product presentation while meeting established deadlines.
  • Develop content in collaboration with franchise and cross-functional review processes (Medical, Regulatory, Legal, etc.)
  • Collaborate with account management team, and graphic designers in the creation of materials

Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Nursing, or a related field). Additional training in health communications, medical writing, or scientific communications is considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in scientific communications, health-related copywriting, medical writing, or content development. Experience may include internships, academic writing, or entry-level agency roles.
  • Experience with content authoring tools (e.g., eWizard, Canva), component content management systems, and AI-assisted writing, editing, and content analysis tools is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the PAAB Code and Innovative Medicines Canada (IMC) Code is considered an asset.

Essential Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong scientific writing skills, with the ability to translate complex medical information into clear, engaging, and accessible content for a variety of audiences.
  • High attention to detail and a strong commitment to scientific accuracy, referencing integrity, and content quality.
  • Ability to learn, interpret, and apply regulations, policies, and industry standards governing pharmaceutical and healthcare communications.
  • Agility and adaptability within a fast-paced, collaborative internal agency environment.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and communicate proactively with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and eagerness to continuously grow within the fields of medical writing, scientific communications, and content innovation.
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English, both written and spoken.

AbbVie aims to offer a French-speaking workplace in Quebec and has made efforts to limit English requirements. However, advanced English skills are essential for this role because the position involves working with English-speaking employees, clients, and regions outside Quebec.
