Because when you thrive, we all thrive.\n\nThis role requires working from our office 2-3x a week\nRESPONSIBILITIES:\n\nEngineering Leadership & Delivery\nLead and manage software engineering teams responsible for building and maintaining business-critical Commerce services.\nOwn end-to-end engineering delivery, from technical planning and solution design through development, testing, deployment, and production support.\nPartner with Product Managers and stakeholders to define priorities, clarify requirements, manage dependencies, and establish realistic delivery commitments.\nDrive predictable execution while maintaining high standards for software quality, security, scalability, and reliability.\nIdentify delivery risks, technical dependencies, and execution bottlenecks, taking proactive measures to address them.\nEstablish clear ownership, accountability, and engineering standards across the team.\nBalance feature delivery, technical debt, production stability, and platform modernization.\nUse engineering metrics such as cycle time, lead time, deployment frequency, change failure rate, and operational reliability to identify improvement opportunities.\nTechnical Leadership & Engineering Excellence\nProvide technical leadership and direction to engineering teams, ensuring architecture, design decisions, and engineering practices support scalable, secure, and reliable solutions.\nPartner with Principal Developers and Architects to evaluate architectural trade-offs and establish technical direction aligned with product and business priorities.\nEstablish accountability for engineering quality, including clean code, automated testing, security, system reliability, and maintainability.\nCoach and develop engineers in technical problem-solving, architectural thinking, and engineering best practices, building stronger technical decision-making capabilities across the team.\nGuide technical risk management, complex issue resolution, and root cause analysis, engaging directly when necessary while empowering engineers to own solutions.\nPartner with Product and Engineering leadership to shape technical roadmaps, manage technical debt, and balance delivery priorities with long-term platform health.\nPeople Leadership & Team Development\nBuild, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering teams with a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.\nConduct regular one-on-one meetings, provide actionable feedback, and support individual career development.\nOwn performance management, goal setting, coaching and development planning\nIdentify and develop future technical leads and engineering leaders through mentoring and delegation.\nLead hiring, technical interviews, onboarding, and workforce planning to build strong engineering capabilities.\nFoster psychological safety, constructive technical discussions, and an inclusive team environment.\nSet clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback and coaching, and address performance gaps promptly and constructively to build a high-performing engineering team.\nPromote knowledge sharing, cross-team collaboration, and reduced dependency on individual contributors.\nAI Adoption & Engineering Innovation\nChampion the responsible adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices across development, testing, documentation, and operational workflows.\nDemonstrate a practical understanding of Generative AI, LLMs, AI coding assistants, and agentic engineering workflows.\nIdentify opportunities to leverage AI to reduce repetitive engineering work, accelerate delivery, and improve software quality.\nEncourage teams to experiment with AI tools while maintaining appropriate engineering review, security, privacy, and quality controls.\nCollaborate with technical leaders to evaluate AI integrations, orchestration patterns, and automation opportunities.\nEstablish measurable outcomes for AI adoption, including improvements in engineering productivity, quality, and delivery efficiency.\nBuild team capabilities through technical learning sessions, experimentation, and practical AI-enabled engineering initiatives.\nOperational Excellence & Production Ownership\nEnsure services meet established reliability, availability, performance, and security expectations.\nDrive production readiness, observability, monitoring, alerting, and incident response practices.\nLead incident reviews and root cause analysis, ensuring preventive actions are implemented and tracked.\nImprove operational metrics such as Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR), incident frequency, and service availability.\nEstablish effective CI/CD practices, automated quality gates, and reliable deployment processes.\nPromote a culture of continuous improvement through retrospectives, technical reviews, and engineering metrics.\nStakeholder Management & Strategic Execution\nCollaborate with Product, Architecture, Platform, QA, Security, and business stakeholders to align engineering execution with organizational priorities.\nCommunicate delivery progress, technical risks, dependencies, and trade-offs clearly to senior leadership.\nContribute to engineering strategy, technical roadmap planning, and long-term platform evolution.\nSupport cross-team initiatives and influence decisions beyond the immediate team.\nDemonstrate sound judgment in balancing business priorities, engineering investment, team capacity, and operational risk.\nQUALIFICATIONS:\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.\nTypically 8+ years of software engineering experience, including demonstrated experience directly managing software engineers and engineering delivery.\nStrong software development background with hands-on experience in Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and enterprise application development.\nSolid understanding of system design, distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architectures, with the ability to engage confidently in technical discussions.\nExperience leading engineering teams responsible for building and operating cloud-based applications, ideally on AWS or comparable platforms.\nWorking knowledge of relational databases, messaging systems, API integrations, and containerized applications.\nProven experience managing engineering delivery, technical priorities, dependencies, and production responsibilities.\nExperience hiring, coaching, developing, and managing the performance of software engineers while building high-performing teams.\nStrong understanding of Agile development practices, CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps principles.\nExperience establishing engineering standards and improving delivery predictability, software quality, reliability, and operational performance.\nWorking knowledge of Generative AI and AI-assisted software engineering practices, including opportunities to improve developer productivity and engineering workflows.\nAbility to partner effectively with Architects, Principal Engineers, and Technical Leads to evaluate architectural trade-offs, manage technical risks, and guide sound engineering decisions.\nAbility to communicate technical priorities and trade-offs clearly, build cross-functional alignment, and resolve competing priorities.\nDemonstrated ownership of engineering outcomes, balancing people development, technical quality, and business priorities.\nAND IT'S GREAT TO HAVE:\nExperience leading engineering teams supporting Billing, Payments, Collections, or Commerce platforms.\nPrevious experience as a Technical Lead, Staff Engineer, or in an architecture-focused role, bringing additional depth in technical design and engineering decision-making.\nExperience leading large-scale modernization, platform migration, or technical transformation initiatives.\nExperience managing geographically distributed engineering teams or multiple engineering workstreams.\nExposure to AI-enabled applications, AI-assisted software
