This role is central to that ambition.\nAbout the Role\nAbion is building its data and AI function from the ground up, and this is one of the first roles in it. As a Data Platform Engineer, you will report into the Head of Data and AI and be a senior, hands-on engineer at the heart of the build, creating the enterprise analytics and integration layer that brings data together from across Abion’s systems into a complete, trusted source for the whole business.\nYou’ll take work from first conversations with the business through to secure, scalable production solutions, using modern AI-assisted tools to deliver quickly without compromising on quality. We see data as the foundation for everything we want to achieve with analytics and AI, and the platform you build will underpin the insights, applications and AI services used across the business.\nKey Responsibilities\nWe’re building a modern, cloud-based data platform on open standards, with the flexibility to adopt the best tools as the market evolves. That means Lakehouse platforms, event-driven and real-time integration, knowledge graph technologies and AI-assisted engineering, giving Abion near real-time insight and a complete, trusted view of the business.\nBuild Abion’s enterprise data platform, establishing a scalable, trusted foundation for analytics, integration and AI.\nIntegrate data from a wide range of business systems and external sources using modern techniques such as APIs, change data capture, event streaming and mirroring, enabling near real-time reporting.\nBuild a complete, trusted knowledge layer, connecting data with business definitions and context so that people, applications and AI can use it with confidence.\nDevelop robust ETL/ELT pipelines and model data into tested, reusable datasets, working with business owners to define and certify the data and KPIs that matter most.\nDeliver trusted, self-service reporting and make data available to applications and AI tools across the business.\nPut governance in place from the start: access control, sensitive data classification, lineage, data quality and observability.\nMonitor platform performance and cost, keeping both under control as use of data services grows.\nUse AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining high engineering standards.\nWork directly with teams across the business and Technology, and champion data, AI and modern ways of working.\nMust haves\nSignificant experience building and running a modern data platform on Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake or similar, using a medallion architecture, including managing ingestion performance and forecasting platform costs.\nStrong Python/PySpark and SQL, with a track record of production ETL/ELT pipelines integrating data from varied business systems, including less well-documented sources.\nExperience delivering self-service data and reporting through tools such as Power BI or custom solutions, with governance (access control, classification, lineage and data quality) implemented in practice.\nHands-on experience with an enterprise-wide data catalogue in active use for cross-system governance, ownership models and access management.\nExperience working with unstructured data and building on top of it, for example through knowledge graphs or ontologies.\nExperience building secure, scalable solutions on Azure or an equivalent cloud platform.\nRegular use of AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude Code or Cursor, with the judgement to review and validate AI-generated output.\nThe knowledge to architect solutions that use AI and apply best practice when building with it, including security, data privacy, testing and cost control.\nProven end-to-end delivery, from concept to production, in a small, high-impact team, using CI/CD and DevOps best practices and working in an agile, iterative way.\nNice to have\nExperience delivering enterprise AI solutions, such as agents and workflows built on Microsoft Foundry or similar.\nExperience in IP, legal tech or compliance-adjacent industries.\nAwareness of AI and data regulations and standards, such as the EU AI Act, ISO/IEC 42001 and GDPR, and how they shape the way solutions are designed and governed.\nAbout you\nA builder who loves exploring and finding solutions to hard problems.\nAble to break down complex system and data problems into clear, deliverable work.\nDriven, dedicated and keen to see ideas through to production.\nPassionate about data and AI, up to date with new trends, and happy to bring fresh ideas to the table.\nEnthusiastic and personable, with the technical depth to back up your stakeholder skills.\nWhy choose Abion?\nJoin Europe’s leading Intellectual Property firm, where you'll thrive in a fast-paced, international environment that values transparency, openness, and accountability.\nAt Abion, we believe in working hard and having fun together.
