As a Software Engineer on MPP, you'll create the standardised data layer that becomes our single source of truth - the one governed path through which any system, agent, or interface can reach data from across every product, from a single record to cross-product aggregates, online or offline, in whatever shape it needs. It's a genuinely hard, high-leverage problem: the layer has to serve the entire platform at high throughput and low latency without ever becoming the bottleneck, while enforcing tenant isolation, authentication, and fine-grained access control so every team inherits strong security and reliability for free. You won't be maintaining someone else's system - you'll be defining the foundation every product is built on, where getting it right compounds across the whole company.\nIf you're energized by 0→1 platform work, driving cross-team standards, and owning a system end-to-end, this role is built for you.\nWhat You'll Do\nTechnical Delivery & Operational Excellence\nDesign, build, and iterate on the APIs and services that make up the standardized data access layer.\nDrive adoption of API-gated data sources, so product teams expose their data once and every consuming surface can reuse it, instead of building one-off integrations.\nDesign and implement standard labeling for data ownership, and build the validation logic that checks incoming requests against it.\nOwn the reliability and stability of the components and features you build.\nContribute to the team's architectural decisions, and write technical design documents for the areas you own.\nParticipate in regular code and design reviews as well as the team-wide on-call rotation.\nWrite code with testability, readability, edge cases, and errors in mind.\nTeamwork & Collaboration\nCommunicate effectively in an asynchronous manner with team members to provide updates, discuss challenges, and propose solutions.\nCollaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams as they adopt the shared data layer.\nTake ownership of projects and act as a driver who adds instant adrenaline and drives positive impact when placed on projects and teams.\nParticipate in team roadmap discussions.\nActively contribute to knowledge sharing within the team and participate in professional development activities.\nMust Have Skills\nSoftware Engineer with 4+ years of industry experience and strong software engineering fundamentals.\nGrowth-oriented, looking to increase impact, responsibility, and ownership over time.\nProven ability to own complex problems and multi-component features end-to-end, with a growing ability to collaborate and influence across teams.\nStrong experience writing production code in Python and/or Golang, and working with SQL and NoSQL databases.\nExperience with system design and building reliable, scalable applications with an emphasis on operational excellence.\nDetail-driven, and care about code quality, testing, and performance.\nAbility to make practical trade-offs - evaluating multiple approaches and selecting the one that best balances customer impact, system complexity, and long-term maintainability.\nAble to write technical design documents and contribute to design and architecture reviews.\nStrong understanding of service health, monitoring, fault tolerance, and incident response practices.\nStrong communication skills and proven ability to work autonomously and asynchronously with remote collaborators and stakeholders.\nShares knowledge with teammates and helps establish team-level patterns and best practices.\nNice to Have Skills\nExperience designing or building data access layers, APIs, or platforms that other engineering teams build on top of.\nExperience treating an internal platform as a product - building for other engineering teams as your customers.\nFamiliarity with ChatGPT, Cursor, and other GenAI productivity tools.\nBig Data platform usage is a plus.\nA note on AI in our process: \n Abnormal AI uses AI-assisted tools to help our recruiting team prepare for candidate interviews.
