We are looking for a skilled Electrical Technician to join our Engineering team at the Port of Ipswich, helping to maintain the critical infrastructure and equipment that keeps our operations moving safely and efficiently.\nThis is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrical professional who enjoys working on heavy industrial plant and equipment, solving problems, and contributing to the success of a busy operational environment.\nThe Role\nReporting to the Engineering Supervisor, you will be responsible for the maintenance, fault finding, repair and servicing of port plant and equipment. You'll play a vital role in ensuring operational reliability whilst maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance and performance.\nThe role is primarily based in Ipswich, although occasional travel to other East Anglia locations may be required. Shifts are as follows: Week 1 - Monday to Thursday: 0600 - 1400, Friday 0600 - 1300. Week 2 - Monday to Thursday: 1400 - 2200, Friday 1300 - 2000.\nKey Responsibilities\nCarry out planned and reactive electrical maintenance on port plant and equipment.\nDiagnose faults and undertake repairs to minimise operational downtime.\nEnsure all work is completed safely and in compliance with company procedures, legislation and safe systems of work.\nSupport operational teams by maintaining the availability and reliability of engineering assets.\nContribute to risk assessments, safe working practices and continuous improvement initiatives.\nProvide support and guidance to apprentices and semi-skilled engineering colleagues where required.\nMaintain accurate records of maintenance activities and communicate progress effectively with supervisors and stakeholders.\nEssential Requirements\nTo be successful in this role, you will have:\nA recognised electrical engineering qualification such as City & Guilds, ONC, HNC or equivalent.\nTime-served experience as an Electrical Technician or Electrical Engineer.\nExperience working in an industrial engineering environment with heavy plant, cranes, conveyor systems or similar equipment.\nStrong electrical fault-finding and maintenance skills.\nA solid understanding of Health & Safety legislation, risk assessments and hazard awareness.\nGood IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.\nExcellent communication and teamwork skills.\nA proactive, problem-solving approach.\nA full UK driving licence.\nDesirable Experience\nThe following would be advantageous:\nBS7671 Electrical Qualification.\nExperience operating plant and equipment.\nKnowledge of port operations or maritime environments.\nExperience working to tight operational deadlines in a fast-paced environment.\nAbility to respond effectively to changing priorities and unplanned breakdowns.\nWhy Join ABP?\nAt ABP, you'll be part of a business that plays a vital role in keeping Britain's trade moving.
