You are possibility.\nJob Summary\nResponsible for offering legal counsel, Coordinate operations of external advocates, negotiations to ensure settlement of third-party claims, and recovery on behalf of the company.Job Description\nLitigation Management.\nReceiving summons and determining whether liability attaches on the part of the Company.\nAppointment of service providers to handle company matters as per policy and maintenance of a register for such appointments.\nReviewing legal claims lodged against our insured’s and engaging third parties in out-of-court negotiations in line with past precedents and set parameters. Always ensuring that adequate reserves are maintained.\nInstructions to external lawyers on how the cases are to be handled.\nReviewing correspondence and opinions from external lawyers and advising management.\nEngage in pre-trial briefings & in conjunction with external lawyers prepare witnesses for court attendance.\nResponding to advocates correspondence and ensuring up to date information is in each file.\nReviewing judgments and recommending settlement or appeals. Making sure that adequate reserves are maintained.\nReceiving summons to enter appearance and plaint from our insured’s and distributing the same to our panel of external advocates.\nNegotiating matters out of court and keeping registers of such matters.\nPeriodically review legal files to ensure accurate reserves are maintained and to ensure the files are up to date.\nHandling the Company’s recoveries from third parties and other insurance companies by instituting suits or out of Court negotiations and follow up thereof.\nEnsuring payments are raised in good time, authorized, and forwarded to Finance Department. Follow up on judgment payments to avoid executions.\nPreparing legal reports & opinions.\nPursue Third Party recoveries for the Company.\nDistributing the work coming into the claims legal department ensuring that all mails are actioned.\nApproving all discharge vouchers and judgments as per the approval limits\nReviewing the external advocates fees to ensure that the fee notes are raised as per remuneration order.\nProviding legal advice, opinion and assistance on all legal claims matters to the management.\nAttending court hearing on behalf of the organization as and when required.\nEnsure Status Reports from service providers are received as per the guidelines.\nPrepare monthly reports and any other report that may be requested.\nPolicy development and advisory\nReview internal policies, procedures, and other documentation to make sure they are compliant with statutory and regulatory requirements.\nHelp management with the interpretation and application of laws and regulations.\nConduct proactive research on any pertinent legal issues and provide strategic legal guidance on the same.\nMonitor and communicate relevant changes in regulatory, corporate, and other applicable laws which may impact the business.\nRegulatory compliance\nSupport management in the proactive identification and mitigation of legal, regulatory, and business risks.\nLiaise with relevant departments to ensure that where legal risks have been identified, appropriate courses of action are taken.\nMonitor and communicate relevant changes in regulatory, corporate, and other applicable laws which may impact the business.\nProvide support on the operational areas with day-to-day regulatory insurance compliance issues.\nProvide required support in the preparation of the department’s monthly and quarterly reports for executive management meetings and Board meetings.\nTimely response to IRA matters and attend meetings as and when required.\nOperations\nProviding continuous leadership, supervision, training, and development of the legal department staff to ensure an effective and motivated team. \nEnsure maintenance of documentation and legal databases.\nEnsure biannual review of all outstanding liability claims.\nEducation and Experience Required:\nBachelor of Laws degree (LLB) from a recognized institution.\nCertified Public Secretary (CPS) with a valid and current Practicing Certificate issued under the Certified Public Secretaries Act.\nMust be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid and current practicing certificate.\nA registered member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing.\nAt least 3 years’ experience legal practice in Insurance/financial institution with experience in Commercial Law, Litigation and Conveyance\n Education\nHigher Diplomas: Law, Military Science and Security (Required)","description_format":"text","description_chars":5038,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":3,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Financial Services","Wealth Management","Lending","Insurance"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-21T17:26:29Z"}],"liveness":{"score":87,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.867,"p_room":1,"age_days":1,"expected_fill_days":6,"reasons":["conf:5","velocity","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-09-23T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/absa-group-legal-officer-first-assurance-kenya","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/absa-group-legal-officer-first-assurance-kenya.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-09-23T11:43:23Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers"}}
