Job Summary:

We are hiring a Trade Compliance lawyer, with 3-5+ years’ experience as a lawyer focused on trade compliance law, to serve as a subject matter expert supporting trade compliance activities under the direction of senior trade compliance leadership.

Global Trade Compliance Counsel plays an important part in promoting Accenture’s compliance with international trade control requirements and regulations in the countries where Accenture does business and helps our Legal team and business to understand trade and export control related risks, compliance, and program controls.

This role is an execution-focused position that operates under the supervision and direction of the Senior Trade Compliance Counsel, Americas Lead. The role supports business stakeholders on transactional trade compliance matters in client contracts and trade-related reviews of the company’s services and offerings and is responsible for developing and delivering relevant trade compliance training and awareness materials, as well as tools, templates, resources, and guidance materials in alignment with established global program guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supports the implementation and maintenance of Accenture’s trade compliance program initiatives across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC regions, executing defined activities and priorities set by global and regional trade compliance leadership, including:
  • Development and delivery of trade compliance training using approved content and frameworks.
  • Development, review and implementation of trade policies and internal controls to support existing program requirements, subject to review and approval by senior trade compliance counsel.
  • Planning and drafting trade compliance communications with internal stakeholders to reinforce existing policies, guidance, and escalation pathways.
  • Working with senior management and outside counsel to conduct risk assessments, recommend improvements to the trade compliance program, and support the implementation of adopted recommendations.
  • Working with internal stakeholders to build trade compliance and monitoring tools to escalate and mitigate trade-related risks.
  • Working with Export Control Officers, including the Export Control Officer in India, on specialized regulated export matters.
  • Provides objective, focused, practical advice and solutions to Accenture businesses and Legal Professionals regarding compliance with trade/export laws, Accenture’s Code of Business Ethics, Accenture’s trade compliance policies, and all other related policies.
  • Collaborates with Legal colleagues and the business to identify, analyze and mitigate trade-related risks, and conducts localized training on trade/export law issues.
  • Responds to and helps manage internal audits and internal investigations related to trade/export law issues.

  • Legal, including Global Services Legal, Sales & Delivery, Contracting, Geographic Compliance and Corporate Counsel.
  • Corporate Functions and business stakeholders.
  • Market Unit leadership.
  • Related subject matter experts (e.g., analytics, security professionals, government compliance).
  • Privacy professionals at client and peer companies.
  • Outside counsel/external law firms.

Qualifications:

Education: Juris Doctorate degree (or comparable legal Master’s degree) and an admitted lawyer.

Work Requirements:

  • Limited travel required as needed (usually <10>
  • Must have ability to effectively work with others remotely, manage a schedule with global clients and engage in contract negotiation.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of international trade controls and trade/export regulatory systems around the world, including U.S. export controls.
  • Experience supporting compliance programs, including preparing policies and internal controls; developing and conducting training; responding to government inquiries; and drafting and reviewing contracts.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and synthesize complex legal analysis into clear, practical recommendations.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to interface, and develop relationships, with all levels of management and staff, and work cross-culturally.
  • Confidence and credibility in dealing with internal management and personnel at client and peer companies.
  • Highly motivated and proactive, with the ability to articulate company vision and policy, and to seek out areas of risk and priority.
  • Strong writing and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to consistently apply good judgment and prioritize.
  • Adapts nimbly to changing needs within the business.
  • Fluent in English.

Additional Desirable Criteria:

  • Chinese language skills.
