Such arrangements are determined with each employee and subject to change based on operational needs and policy direction.\nFLEX\nThe successful candidate for this vacancy would participate in a modified work week, earning a flex day off each bi-weekly period by working additional time each day. Modified work weeks established in accordance with the CUPE Local 50 Collective Agreement and are subject to change.\nPOSITION FUNCTION\nThe Communications and Engagement Coordinator provides communications and engagement advice to internal client groups. The position plans, develops and implements engagement plans and communications campaigns in support of City programs, services and initiatives. The role incorporates inclusive and accessible approaches to support equitable participation from diverse communities.\nKEY DUTIES\nPlan, develop and implement communications plans and tools to support City programs, services and initiatives, including media releases, advertising, signage, presentations, website content and social media.\nSupport proactive issues monitoring and assist with the preparation of briefing materials for management and City Council. \nDevelop, implement and evaluate engagement plans to gather community and stakeholder input on programs, services or initiatives, and summarize findings for leadership. \nDevelop engagement tools and communications materials, and coordinate public events to support inclusive and accessible engagement activities. \nAssist with the development and refinement of communications policies, guidelines and evaluation methods. \nUse performance metrics and reporting tools to measure the effectiveness of communications and engagement activities.\nCoordinate communications projects with internal stakeholders, as well as government and community partners. \nProvide communications support to directors, managers and departmental staff, including advice, information and media-related assistance. \nPromote the City of Victoria and its initiatives through outreach to stakeholder and community groups.\nResearch, write and edit content for public-facing communications materials. \nCollaborate with City departments to identify communications needs and develop relevant plans and materials. \nSupport consistent application of City brand standards, including tone and visual identity, across communications platforms. \nMaintain and update website and engagement platform content. \nPrepare draft responses to media inquiries and prepare media releases and supporting materials. \nProvide communications support during emergencies and act as an alternate Public Information Officer, as assigned. \nPerform related duties where qualified.\nINDEPENDENCE\nWork is generated by annual objectives, departmental work plans, requests from Council, operational demands, emerging communications issues or is assigned by supervisor.\nWork is reviewed through meetings with supervisor.\nIssues such as major expenditures or deviations from policy are referred to supervisor.\nWORKING CONDITIONS\nPhysical Effort:\nNormal.\nMental Effort:\nDeal with complaints and negative comments. (premium item)\nKEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES\nOrganize and prioritize work effectively, manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.\nApply engagement and communications techniques, including planning, coordination, public consultation and event support.\nSkilled in researching, writing and editing clear, accurate communications materials for public audiences.\nProvide communications-related guidance and information to internal departments at a working level.\nSkilled in the working-level use of word processing, spreadsheet, content management and communications-related software. \nEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, community members and external agencies. \nCommunicate effectively and professionally with the public and external partners, and represent the City in engagement and communications activities.\nWork collaboratively within a team environment and contribute to project-based initiatives. \nQUALIFICATIONS\nFormal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:\nDegree in Communications or Journalism.
