Operate various hand tools and power equipment such as shovels, and line trimmer, rototiller, electric shears, riding mowers, chainsaws, ditch-witch and turf-cutters. \nDetermine materials and equipment as required; perform equipment maintenance, report repairs required and damage to equipment to supervisor and mechanic shop, maintain fuel and equipment supply for staff at various work sites. \nProvide work direction and instruction to other staff as required, complete daily and seasonal work records and equipment slips, occasionally respond to enquiries from the public, staff and outside agencies regarding general parks information.\nPerform related duties where qualified.\nINDEPENDENCE\nWork is performed according to seasonal schedule and is reviewed while in progress.\nIssues such as schedule changes are discussed with supervisor.\nWORKING CONDITIONS\nPhysical Effort:\nLift and use of heavy material and equipment. (occasional)\nKEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES\nOrganize and prioritize work.\nUnderstand and apply turf and grounds trades skills. \nUse hand tools and power equipment.\nDirect the work of assistants.\nEstablish and maintain effective working relationships.\nDeal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.\nWork safely on job sites.\nQUALIFICATIONS\nFormal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:\nHigh school Graduation.\nCompletion of 2-year Turf Diploma or completion of 4-year BC Trades Qualification in landscape horticulture or an equivalent Diploma or Trades Qualification in a related field. (2 years)\nCertified Irrigation Technician Levels 1 and 2 (Landscape) (24 hours)\nCurrent and valid Class 5 B.C.
