In this role, you'll develop and review traffic control plans, inspect work sites, coordinate road closures and detours, and work closely with City staff, contractors, emergency services, and the public to minimize disruptions.\nThis is a great opportunity for someone with traffic control experience who enjoys problem-solving, coordinating multiple stakeholders, and helping keep people moving safely through construction projects and community events. Your work will play a key role in maintaining safe, efficient travel throughout the city while supporting important infrastructure projects and community events.\nIf you have experience in traffic management, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to safety, we'd like to hear from you.\nAuxiliary status employees will be paid an additional 15% in lieu of vacation, holiday, sick leave beyond the statutory requirement, and other benefits, per the CUPE Local 50 Collective Agreement.\nPOSITION FUNCTION\nPerform traffic control administration for various construction sites and special events.\nKEY DUTIES\nPlan, develop, formulate, and review traffic control plans, hazard/risk assessments and associated clerical tasks. \nConduct field traffic management inspections. \nPlan traffic routing for all City related services, including construction projects and special events according to specifications, federal regulations and municipal policies; close roads or detour traffic; coordinate placement of barricades, cones and signs and other traffic control devices around job sites; ensure compliance with departmental policy and legislative requirements. \nAnalyse and implement traffic data to define operating parameters.\nCreate timelines, instructions and breakdowns for future projects.\nLiaise with public, other departments, contractors and the development community to coordinator constructions and road closures to minimize traffic disruption and congestion.\nIdentify potential issues with traffic control set-up and offer resolutions; operate a vehicle to transport equipment and materials. \nProvide traffic control in emergency situations such as fire, floods, or oil spills on road; inform emergency services, transit companies and local radio stations of road closures. \nWork with City stakeholders to develop traffic control plans and maintain databases and mapping related to City operations and maintenance.\nConduct site inspections to ensure standard traffic control plans and practices are followed by contractors and staff. Attend site meetings to discuss traffic control measures and provide guidance on containment. \nMinor repairs to traffic control devices such as signs and barriers; Perform pre and post trip vehicle inspections. Provide road closure information to administrative staff. \nPerform clerical and administrative tasks within the Civic Services Department, including maintaining databases and preparing business correspondence; Prepare priority lists, project status reports and project budgets.\nPerform related duties where qualified.\nINDEPENDENCE\nWork is generated by construction activities or assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.\nIssues such as major traffic disruption are discussed with supervisor.\nWORKING CONDITIONS\nPhysical Effort:\nLift and move heavy signs and barricades. (16 hours)\nCurrent and valid Class 5 B.C.
