At Sofitel, we’re passionate about developing our people, celebrating individuality and creating opportunities to grow within the world of luxury hospitality. We believe that behind every memorable guest experience is a team that feels valued, supported and empowered to deliver their best.

Bonjour! We’re looking for our next extraordinary team member to join our Culinary team as a Demi Chef, working across our diverse kitchen operations at Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour.

This is an exciting opportunity to build your experience across multiple culinary environments, with the flexibility to work across Atelier, Club Millésime, Le Rivage, Breakfast, In-Room Dining, Esprit Noir and Champagne Bar.

From breakfast and all-day dining to poolside service, club lounge experiences, in-room dining and our premium bars, you’ll gain exposure to a broad range of service styles, menus and culinary techniques while working alongside experienced chefs.

As a Demi Chef, you’ll play an important role in preparing, cooking and presenting food to Sofitel standards. You’ll take pride in your section, maintain a clean and organised workstation, and work closely with the wider Culinary team to ensure every dish leaving the kitchen is prepared with care, consistency and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, cook and present dishes in line with established recipes, menus and Sofitel standards.
  • Work across a range of kitchen sections and outlets including Atelier, Club Millésime, Le Rivage, Breakfast, In-Room Dining, Esprit Noir and Champagne Bar.
  • Support daily preparation, mise en place and service requirements across assigned sections.
  • Maintain consistency, quality and presentation across every dish.
  • Follow recipes, portion controls and plating standards accurately.
  • Assist with service across breakfast, lunch, dinner, events and other operational requirements as rostered.
  • Work collaboratively with Chefs, Sous Chefs and the wider Culinary team to ensure smooth service.
  • Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, cleanliness and HACCP compliance.
  • Ensure your section is organised, fully prepared and service-ready.
  • Monitor food quality and presentation throughout service.
  • Minimise food waste and use ingredients responsibly.
  • Assist with receiving, storing and rotating food products in accordance with food safety standards.
  • Follow all workplace health and safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Support the training and development of junior team members when required.
  • Demonstrate a positive, proactive and professional attitude throughout every service.

You’re a passionate culinary professional who takes pride in your craft and enjoys working in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment. You’re eager to develop your skills, gain exposure across different culinary operations and build your career within luxury hospitality.

You bring:

  • Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent culinary qualification.
  • Previous experience as a Commis Chef, Demi Chef or similar kitchen role.
  • Experience in a high-end, hotel, restaurant or high-volume kitchen environment.
  • Strong understanding of food preparation, cooking techniques and kitchen operations.
  • High attention to detail and pride in food quality and presentation.
  • Understanding of food safety, hygiene and HACCP standards.
  • Ability to work efficiently and calmly during busy service periods.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine passion for food, hospitality and continuous learning.
  • A positive, reliable and proactive “can-do” attitude.
  • Ability to work across different outlets and kitchen sections as operationally required.
  • Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays.
  • Full Australian working rights.
