Job Description

Senior Director, Global Product Strategy & Product Management

SUMMARY:

The Senior Director, Global Product Strategy & Product Management will be a senior global leader responsible for the company’s multi-year product strategy and portfolio direction, serving as the point of accountability for all product strategy and product management activities across the organization.

Reporting directly to the SVP, Chief Medical & Marketing Officer, this individual will translate the enterprise’s strategic vision into clear, actionable product priorities and roadmaps. They will lead and mentor the global Product Strategy and Product Management teams, ensuring a high-performance culture grounded in clinical and customer focus, innovation, and operational excellence. Through tight alignment with the CMO’s vision, this individual will drive end-to-end product lifecycle success - from upfront portfolio strategy and innovation, through product development and launch, to post-market management and customer adoption.

In this capacity, the Senior Director will act as a thought partner to executive leadership, advising on portfolio trade-offs, investment decisions, and long-term growth opportunities to maintain the company’s competitive edge. The role requires a unique blend of strategic foresight and executional discipline - the ability to envision where our product portfolio should be heading in 3, 5, and 10 years, coupled with the leadership to ensure our current product development efforts are aligned with those long-term goals.

This leader will ensure that product strategy (“the what and why”) provides the guiding context in which product management operates, while product management (“the how and delivery”) executes to achieve timely, high-quality product launches that meet market needs

REPORTING TO/DEPARTMENT:

Reports to the SVP, Chief Medical & Marketing Officer in the Clinical Innovation and Education department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Global Product Strategy Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive multi-year product strategy across the entire product portfolio, including CyberKnife, Radixact/TomoTherapy, software, and services.
  • Define the long-term vision (“north star”) for how the portfolio will maintain competitive differentiation (e.g. focusing on key niches like neuro-radiosurgery or adaptive therapy leadership) and decide on “big bets” for investment, partnerships, or acquisitions to drive future growth.
  • Ensure product roadmaps have the right balance of near-term improvements and breakthrough innovations aligned with corporate objectives.

Product Management Oversight & Lifecycle Management

  • Oversee the global product management function across the full product lifecycle, from concept to development, market launch, updates, and end-of-life transitions.
  • Guide product managers in developing clear product requirements and feature roadmaps for each product line, prioritizing features and enhancements based on customer needs, clinical impact, and business value.
  • Ensure disciplined execution of new product development in collaboration with R&D/Engineering - verifying that product management “defines the what” (requirements and features) while R&D “defines the how” (technical implementation).
  • Steer lifecycle decisions such as product enhancements, regional adaptations, and end-of-life planning to maximize clinical impact, customer satisfaction, and profitability.

Voice of Customer & Market Insight

  • Champion a customer-centric approach by integrating Voice of Customer (VoC) feedback and market intelligence into product planning.
  • Lead clinically focused VoC initiatives, engaging radiation oncologists, medical physicists, therapists, surgeons, hospital administrators, and other stakeholders to identify unmet clinical needs and validate product concepts.
  • Leverage competitive intelligence, industry trends (technology advances, clinical practice shifts, reimbursement changes) and advisory boards to ensure the product portfolio anticipates market changes and customer needs.
  • Partner with Medical Affairs and Growth Marketing, Commercial Teams, and Sales Enablement to align product strategies with clinical evidence generation, real-world workflows, and physician education needs.

Cross-Functional Alignment & Execution

  • This leader will work in close partnership with other senior marketing and clinical leaders to ensure seamless execution and alignment across functions including Growth Marketing, Field Enablement (Sales Enablement), Medical Affairs & Clinical Affairs, R&D and Engineering, Executive Leadership.
  • Act as the senior integrator across R&D, Clinical, Regulatory, Quality, Operations, and Commercial teams to ensure product strategies are technically feasible, regulatory-compliant, and operationally supported.
  • Work closely with R&D/Engineering leadership to translate clinical and user requirements into viable product designs and development plans.
  • Drive timely execution of product development programs by establishing clear decision-making processes and trade-off criteria based on business and customer impact.
  • This includes championing the new product development process to deliver high-quality releases on schedule and proactively coordinating across departments to resolve obstacles quickly.

Commercial & Market Alignment

  • Ensure strong linkage between product development and commercial success.
  • Collaborate with the Global Growth Marketing team on go-to-market planning, product positioning, and launch execution so that product value propositions are effectively communicated and translated into compelling marketing campaigns.
  • Work with the Field Enablement (Sales Enablement) team to equip sales and regional marketing teams with the training, tools, and messaging needed to successfully sell and support the products in all markets. Support pricing and health economics strategies (in partnership with Finance and Field Enablement) to ensure product pricing and reimbursement approaches reflect clinical value and competitive dynamics.
  • Align with regional commercial leaders to tailor product plans for key markets (e.g., Americas, EIMEA, Asia-Pacific), making sure global product strategies are effectively localized and executed worldwide.

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Build and mentor a high-performing team of product strategists and product managers.
  • Foster a culture of clinical curiosity, analytical rigor, customer empathy, and accountability for results.
  • Set clear goals and developmental plans for team members (e.g., Directors of Product Strategy for each major product line and global Product Managers) and promote cross-functional collaboration and best-practice sharing across the team. Represent the Product Strategy/Product Management function on the Marketing Leadership Team, contributing to overall marketing priorities, go-to-market strategy, and cross-functional alignment initiatives.
  • Serve as a visible product champion in interactions with executive leadership and regional teams, clearly communicating product vision and progress and gathering input to refine strategies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, Healthcare, or a related field.
  • Deep understanding of medical devices or related healthcare technology domains. Solid familiarity with clinical environments (preferably in radiation oncology or adjacent fields), enabling credible engagement with clinicians and insight into patient care workflows.
  • Experience navigating complex regulatory environments (FDA, CE Mark, etc.) and integrating safety, quality, and compliance considerations into product planning
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in product strategy, product management, or related leadership roles within medical devices or regulated healthcare technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate clinical, customer, and market insights into clear product and portfolio strategy.
  • Experience working within complex regulatory environments (FDA, CE, ISO) and understanding implications for product development and strategy.
  • Proven experience leading global, cross functional teams and influencing at the executive level.

Preferred or desired:

  • MBA or an advanced degree (MS, PhD, MD or equivalent) in a relevant field is highly desirable, indicating strong business and/or clinical training.
  • Experience in radiation oncology is strongly preferred (e.g., working with radiation therapy products or clinical workflows), or experience in related domains such as medical imaging, surgical robotics, or advanced therapeutic devices.
  • Exposure to collaborating with Key Opinion Leaders, participating in clinical studies, or driving evidence generation initiatives is a plus.
  • Demonstrated success in managing product strategies across global markets, understanding regional differences in healthcare systems, reimbursement, and competitive landscapes.
  • Experience working with teams across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific is beneficial.
  • Experience with build/partner/buy decisions and strategic partnerships or M&A to fill portfolio gaps.
  • A track record of driving innovation, whether through new product development or integrating externally sourced technologies,
  • Familiarity with human factors engineering, patient safety design principles, and incorporating clinical evidence or user feedback into product design.
