This role focuses on designing, developing, enhancing, and supporting mission-critical payment processing applications used by leading financial institutions worldwide.\nThe ideal candidate brings deep expertise in COBOL-based development, strong analytical problem-solving skills, experience in high-volume transaction processing environments, and a passion for adopting AI-powered engineering practices to improve quality, productivity, and operational excellence.\nA Typical Day at ACI\nDesign, develop, test, and maintain high-quality software solutions supporting ACI's card payment platforms.\nDevelop and support applications utilizing COBOL, JCL, DB2, and VSAM on IBM Mainframe environments.\nParticipate in architecture reviews, technical design discussions, and code reviews to ensure engineering excellence.\nDevelop and execute automated unit, integration, and regression tests to ensure product quality.\nInvestigate, troubleshoot, and resolve customer-reported defects and production incidents.\nCollaborate closely with Product Management, Professional Services, Customer Support, and Engineering teams.\nCreate and maintain technical documentation, solution designs, and engineering specifications.\nParticipate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, estimation, daily standups, reviews, and retrospectives.\nDrive continuous improvement initiatives focused on performance, resiliency, maintainability, and operational excellence.\nLeverage AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar technologies to enhance software development productivity and quality.\nPerform other duties as assigned.\nUnderstand and adhere to all corporate policies including the ACI Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.\nKnowledge, Skills & Experience Needed to Succeed\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.\nMinimum 8+ years of software development experience.\nStrong expertise in COBOL, JCL, and DB2 development.\nHands-on experience with IBM Mainframe technologies.\nExperience developing and supporting high-volume transaction processing systems.\nExperience using AI-powered development tools (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or similar) to improve engineering productivity, code quality, testing, and problem-solving.\nAbility to effectively apply AI solutions to software development, automated testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and operational workflows.\nExperience with source code management tools such as Git.\nStrong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.\nExperience working within Agile software development methodologies.\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills.\nAbility to work independently while collaborating effectively within global cross-functional teams.\nPreferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience\nExperience within the payments industry supporting Visa, Mastercard, Discover, AMEX, JCB, or other card payment networks.\nKnowledge of card issuing, acquiring, authorization, clearing, settlement, or interchange processing.\nExperience with Unix/Linux administration and shell scripting.\nJava development experience.\nStrong working knowledge of VSAM.\nExperience supporting mission-critical, high-availability transaction processing environments.\nExperience driving performance engineering, resiliency, and operational excellence initiatives.\nExposure to cloud-hosted payment platforms and modernization of legacy enterprise applications.\nExperience working within regulated financial services environments.\nFamiliarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation frameworks.\nCore Capabilities\nWe seek colleagues who embody ACI's core capabilities and contribute to our innovative engineering culture:\nEnsure Accountability: Hold yourself and others accountable to meet commitments.\nDrives Results: Consistently achieve results, even under challenging circumstances.\nCustomer Focus: Build strong customer relationships and deliver customer-centric solutions.\nCultivate Innovation: Create new and better ways for the organization to succeed.\nCollaborates: Build partnerships and work effectively across teams and geographies.\nCourage: Step up to address difficult issues and say what needs to be said.\nAI Readiness\nAt ACI, AI is becoming an integral part of our engineering culture.
