Senior Engineering Manager

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead and grow a high-performing backend engineering team. In this role, you will bridge traditional enterprise backend architecture with modern AI solutions. You will drive technical direction, foster engineering excellence, and lead the architecture of high-throughput Java microservices integrated with generative AI and machine learning capabilities.

Responsibilities:

• People and Team Leadership: Mentor, hire, and scale an engineering team of 8-15 software engineers. Conduct performance reviews, manage career progression, and foster an inclusive culture of ownership.
• Technical and Architectural Strategy: Guide backend system design using enterprise Java frameworks. Drive architectural decisions around integrating AI capabilities into robust, scalable distributed systems.
• AI Integration: Lead the deployment of practical AI technologies such as LLMs, vector search, RAG pipelines, and automated intelligence workflows into our core backend infrastructure.
• Delivery and Operational Excellence: Partner with Product Managers, Designers, and Data Science teams to translate business vision into realistic roadmaps and on-time technical deliverables.
• System Quality: Ensure low latency, high availability, security, and maintainability across all core backend services.

The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions:

Core Tech Stack (Must Have):

• Backend Expertise: Expert-level knowledge of Core Java (Java 11/17/21+), Spring Boot, REST APIs, and modern microservices architecture.
• Distributed Systems: Strong background with message brokers (Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ) and relational/NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB).
• Cloud and DevOps: Experience deploying enterprise services on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) using Docker and Kubernetes.

AI / ML Exposure:

• Practical experience or strong conceptual understanding of integrating AI/LLM services (OpenAI, Claude, Azure OpenAI, or open-source models) into backend production systems.
• Familiarity with vector databases (Pinecone, PGVector, Milvus), AI orchestration (LangChain4j, Spring AI, LlamaIndex), RAG architecture, or AI developer productivity tools.

Leadership and Soft Skills:

• 3+ years managing engineering teams with a proven track record of hiring, retention, and performance management.
• Strong system design background with the ability to lead deep architectural reviews and evaluate complex technical trade-offs.
• Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Background in refactoring legacy backend monolithic systems into event-driven, AI-enabled microservices.
