Role Overview

The CNC Machine Operator is responsible for safely setting up, operating, monitoring, and maintaining CNC manufacturing equipment used in the fabrication of components for critical power infrastructure and data center products. This position supports production goals by producing quality parts in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and production schedules while maintaining the highest standards of safety, productivity, and workmanship. Based on responsibilities from both machinist and laser operation functions.

The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, troubleshooting ability, and a commitment to continuous improvement. This role requires the ability to work independently, maintain equipment performance, and support manufacturing operations in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

CNC Machine Setup & Operation

  • Set up and operate CNC manufacturing equipment, including laser cutting machines and other CNC-controlled fabrication equipment.
  • Review work orders, blueprints, engineering drawings, nesting programs, and specifications prior to production.
  • Verify material type, dimensions, thickness, and machine settings before beginning production runs.
  • Perform machine startup, shutdown, and operational checks.
  • Monitor machine performance to ensure production efficiency, quality, and equipment reliability.
  • Optimize machine utilization while minimizing scrap and downtime.

Material Handling & Production Support

  • Load, unload, position, and transport materials using overhead cranes, forklifts, carts, hand trucks, and approved lifting devices.
  • Verify material identification and maintain traceability throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Remove finished parts, remnants, scrap, and waste materials from production areas.
  • Assist with movement of completed products and work-in-process materials throughout the facility.
  • Support production teams with fabrication, forming, grinding, deburring, sanding, and finishing operations as required.

Quality Assurance

  • Inspect completed parts for dimensional accuracy, cut quality, surface finish, and compliance with engineering specifications.
  • Utilize measuring tools, gauges, and inspection equipment to verify product quality.
  • Identify and report non-conforming materials, components, or production issues.
  • Ensure all products meet customer, engineering, and company quality requirements.
  • Support corrective actions and continuous improvement efforts related to quality performance.

Troubleshooting & Equipment Maintenance

  • Troubleshoot routine CNC machine issues, alarms, tooling concerns, and operational disruptions.
  • Perform operator-level machine adjustments to maintain production efficiency.
  • Conduct daily inspections and basic preventive maintenance activities.
  • Inspect and replace approved tooling and consumable components when necessary.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance concerns, and abnormal operating conditions promptly.
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness and readiness for production.

Safety & Housekeeping

  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Operate cranes, forklifts, and material handling equipment safely.
  • Maintain awareness of manufacturing hazards including moving machinery, suspended loads, sharp materials, sparks, and heavy components.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of excess scrap and debris.
  • Immediately report safety concerns, near misses, incidents, and unsafe conditions. Documentation & Communication
  • Complete production records, inspection reports, maintenance logs, and material tracking documentation accurately.
  • Track production quantities, downtime, scrap, and machine performance metrics.
  • Communicate equipment concerns, quality issues, and production status to supervisors and support personnel.
  • Provide effective shift handoff communication to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Account for work completed and support departmental reporting requirements. What We're Looking For
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of manufacturing, fabrication, machining, CNC operation, or industrial equipment experience preferred.
  • Experience operating CNC machines, laser cutting equipment, machining centers, or similar manufacturing equipment strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, work instructions, and production documentation.
  • Working knowledge of measuring instruments and basic mathematical calculations.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts preferred or ability to obtain certification.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and basic fabrication equipment safely and effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and accountability.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing production priorities and support multiple manufacturing operations.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the work shift.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., with mechanical assistance when necessary.
  • Ability to safely handle steel materials and fabricated components with sharp edges.
  • Ability to work around large industrial machinery, cranes, forklifts, and moving equipment.
  • Ability to wear required PPE at all times.
  • Ability to visually inspect products and safely perform manufacturing duties.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include noise, heat, dust, sparks, fumes, and heavy materials.
  • Ability to support multiple shifts and overtime as business needs require
