Within Avionics, the Surveillance product line develops and sustains systems that enable aircraft awareness, collision avoidance, and airspace interoperability. Our portfolio includes TCAS, Mode S transponders, ADS-B, and integrated surveillance solutions deployed across commercial, military, and rotorcraft platforms. This work is performed in highly regulated environments and demands deep expertise across systems, hardware, software, and RF throughout the full product lifecycle.\nThe Lead Project Engineer owns the technical and execution outcome of aerospace projects from kickoff through certification and delivery. This person sets clear commitments, holds the cross-functional team to them, and takes personal responsibility for results, including when things go wrong.\nYou will lead engineers, designers, test, quality, supply chain and manufacturing partners without necessarily managing them directly. Success in this role is measured by delivered hardware and software, met milestones, and a team that knows exactly what it owes and when.\nResponsibilities:\nOwnership and accountability\nOwn project outcomes end to end: scope, schedule, cost, technical performance and quality.\nSet clear, written commitments for every team member, with named owners and due dates for each deliverable and action item.\nRun disciplined project cadence: weekly status reviews, action item tracking, and follow-up until each item is closed.\nAddress missed commitments directly and promptly; work with the owner on root cause and a recovery plan rather than absorbing the gap silently.\nEscalate early and with data when risks threaten cost, schedule or compliance; never let leadership or customers be surprised.\nOwn mistakes openly, lead corrective action, and capture lessons learned so they are not repeated.\nRecognize and reinforce accountable behavior on the team; give candid feedback to functional managers on team member performance.\n Technical leadership\nServe as the technical authority for the project, driving requirements definition, design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR) and design trade decisions.\nEnsure designs meet applicable standards and regulations (e.g., FAA, EASA, DO-160, DO-178C/DO-254, AS9100).\nLead root cause and corrective action (8D, 5-Why, fishbone) on test failures, nonconformances and field issues.\nReview and approve engineering drawings, specifications, test plans and reports.\n Program execution\nBuild and maintain integrated master schedules, budgets and resource plans; report earned value or equivalent metrics.\nMaintain the project risk and opportunity register with owners, mitigations and trigger dates.\nManage engineering change, configuration control and certification deliverables.\nAct as primary technical point of contact for customers, suppliers and regulators.\nMentor junior engineers and model a culture of ownership across the team.\nBasic Qualifications:\nBachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Systems Engineering, or a related field.\n9+ years of engineering experience in aerospace or defense, including 4+ years leading cross-functional project teams.\nProven record of delivering projects to commitment, with specific examples of schedule, cost or quality outcomes you owned.\nDemonstrated ability to hold peers and team members accountable without direct authority, including handling missed commitments and difficult conversations.\nWorking knowledge of the aerospace product lifecycle: requirements, design reviews, qualification testing and certification.\nExperience with aerospace standards such as AS9100, DO-160, DO-178C or DO-254, and FAA/EASA certification processes.\nStrong skills in scheduling, risk management and structured problem solving (8D, root cause analysis).\nClear, direct written and verbal communication with engineers, executives, customers and suppliers.\nAbility to work with export-controlled data; U.S. person status may be required under ITAR/EAR.\nAdditional Qualifications:\nMaster's degree in engineering or an MBA.\nPMP, PgMP or equivalent project management certification.\nExperience with avionics, flight safety, or air traffic systems.\nBackground in Lean, Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt) or other continuous improvement methods.\nExperience with earned value management (EVM) and tools such as MS Project, Jira or a PLM system.\nPrior experience as a customer-facing technical lead on commercial or government programs.","description_format":"text","description_chars":4576,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":9,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Avionics & Flight Control","Commercial Aviation"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-13T22:09:16Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":86,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":1,"age_days":0,"expected_fill_days":71,"reasons":["conf:0","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-14T06:34:16Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/acron-aviation-lead-project-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/acron-aviation-lead-project-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-14T10:23:15Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":12064,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-15T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":3239135},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=3239135"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Facron-aviation-lead-project-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Facron-aviation-lead-project-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Facron-aviation-lead-project-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/acron-aviation-lead-project-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Facron-aviation-lead-project-engineer"}]}
