As part of a global group with a strong UK presence, we offer long-term stability, career development, and access to varied and technically challenging projects.\nWe’re growing and looking for an HV Commissioning Engineer to play a key role in delivering testing, commissioning, and technical support across HV and LV systems.\nWhat you’ll be doing\nThis is a hands-on, site-based role working across multiple HV projects, supporting commissioning, testing, and fault investigation activities.\nYou’ll be responsible for:\nTesting and commissioning HV and LV systems and substation equipment\n\nCommissioning protection relays and schemes (including Overcurrent, Earth Fault, Differential, G99 and transformer protection)\n\nCarrying out fault finding and investigation across a range of HV/LV assets\n\nSupporting switching operations (11kV / 33kV) where authorised\n\nTesting equipment including:\nTransformers (power and distribution)\n\nCTs / VTs\n\nCircuit breakers (oil, gas, vacuum, air)\n\nRMUs, cables, busbars, battery tripping systems\n\nInterpreting schematics and wiring diagrams\n\nProducing test procedures, commissioning reports, and documentation\n\nSupporting engineering teams across regional projects\n\nWhat we’re looking for\nWe’re looking for a practical, technically strong commissioning engineer with HV experience and a proactive approach on site.\nEssential:\nExperience in HV testing, commissioning, or protection systems\n\nStrong understanding of power systems and substation equipment\n\nAbility to work independently and as part of project teams\n\nExperience interpreting technical drawings and schematics\n\nDesirable:\nExperience with or working towards SAP (Senior Authorised Person) status\n\nExperience with 11kV / 33kV switching operations\n\nKnowledge of protection settings, grading studies, and relay testing\n\nPrevious experience across industrial, utilities, or infrastructure projects\n\nQualifications\nBTEC Level 3 in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) - essential\n\nHNC in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) - desirable\n\nAP15 / SAP authorisation (or equivalent) - desirable\n\nWhat you’ll get in return\nCompetitive salary based on experience\n\nStructured development pathway including:\nSAP authorisation\n\nSwitching training\n\nOngoing technical training\n\nOpportunity to work on diverse HV projects across multiple sectors\n\nClear progression into Senior / Lead Engineering roles\n\nSupportive team environment within a global organisation (VINCI Energies)\n\nHealth Shield, pension, and wider benefits\n\nAbout Us\nActemium Birmingham, part of VINCI Energies UK & ROI, delivers specialist engineering services across industrial and infrastructure sectors.
