Founded in 2003 by Alison Malmon after the tragic suicide of her brother Brian, Active Minds is dedicated to supporting a new generation in ending the silence, helping to make mental health as highly valued as physical health. Through our many programs - including the emotionally gripping Send Silence Packing® traveling exhibit and our compelling Active Minds Speakers - we are changing culture and behaviors related to mental health across the country.\nOur internships are geared towards current college students and recent college graduates. As a small nonprofit, Active Minds relies on the help of our interns tremendously. They work directly on important initiatives and projects and assist staff on a variety of administrative tasks. Interns have the opportunity to do substantive work, gain experience in the nonprofit sector, and help change the culture around mental health.\nAll Spring 2027 internships will be remote, with an anticipated start date of February 1st, 2027, and an anticipated end date of April 23rd, 2027. We expect interns to work a minimum of 20 hours a week, set a consistent work schedule between 9:00am and 5:00pm EST Monday through Friday, and commit to staying on board for the entire semester (February-April).\nActive Minds pays interns $18 per hour.\nDigital Media Internship\nAs part of the Marketing and Communications team, the Digital Media intern will support the Social Media and Digital Marketing team in developing content across platforms, with a particular focus on short and long-form video content capturing, editing, and producing. They will work with the rest of the team to create engaging, shareable content to help increase awareness of Active Minds programming.\nThis role will provide interns with the opportunity to be creative, learn how nonprofits manage and develop their social media, collaborate with various Active Minds staffers to learn more about mental health advocacy, and interact with thousands of enthusiastic audience members on a daily basis.\nDigital Media interns are valued members of the team who support the mission and vision of our work through a variety of projects in ways both big and small.\nWhat You’ll Do:\nCreate, edit, and publish short- and long-form video content for social media and digital channels.\nAssist with content planning, development, and execution across platforms including Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Facebook.\nSupport video production efforts, including filming, editing, captioning, and optimizing content for various audiences and platforms.\nCollaborate with staff across departments to identify and develop stories that highlight Active Minds programs, events, and impact.\nAssist with graphic design and content creation using Canva and other creative tools.\nMonitor social media trends, emerging platforms, and content best practices to inform content development.\nSupport community engagement efforts by helping manage comments, messages, and audience interactions.\nAssist with content organization, asset management, and other marketing and communications projects as needed\nWhat You’ll Gain:\nHands-on experience creating content for a nationally recognized nonprofit organization.\nExposure to digital marketing, social media strategy, brand storytelling, and audience engagement.\nOpportunities to collaborate with professionals across communications, advocacy, fundraising, and program teams.\nExperience developing content that advances mental health awareness and social impact initiatives.\nA portfolio of meaningful work that demonstrates creative and strategic content development skills.\nQualifications:\nPassion and experience working in social media with significant video editing experience \nExperience with Canva (or similar graphic design software)\nStrong long- and short-form video editing, storytelling, and communications skills\nKnowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro (or similar editing software)\nInterest in video filming, editing, and being on-camera\nStrong writing and communications skills\nDetail-oriented & creative thinker\nTeam player with a willingness to learn \nKnowledge of Google Workspace, Zoom, and Dropbox\nEligibility Requirements:\nAll applicants must be currently enrolled in, or have previously attended, a U.S. based college or university\nAll applicants must be able to complete a work authorization (I-9) during onboarding \nAll applicants must be able to complete the entirety of the internship program on the listed dates in the job description \nApplication Process\nThe application cycle for the Spring 2027 Internship Program will be open from Wednesday, October 21st, 2026 through Wednesday, November 4th, 2026.
