The Back Office Technician prepares patients for examination and assists other optical professionals in providing treatment to the eyes.\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:\nTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without accommodation. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.\nEnsures a positive and professional environment where patients feel comfortable; prepares patients for treatment and assists doctors.\nCollects and documents the patient’s chief complaint.\nVerifies patient’s ocular and medical health history. Documents any medications patient is taking.\nObtains consents from patients. Ensures patients read and sign the consents.\nPerforms Refractions.\nAdministers basic Visual Acuity (VA) assessments.\nPerforms intraocular pressure (IOP) tests with a Tonopen unit.\nTakes Fundus photos.\nAdministers a Visual Field (VF) test.\nPerforms Flourescein Angiogram (FA) procedures.\nPerforms Indocyanine Green Angiography (ICG) procedures.\nAdministers topical ophthalmic and dilation medications to patients.\nMaintains a clean, sterile, and stocked exams rooms.\nProvides written instructions and/or patient education materials for the patient to review at home. Ensures patient understands all instructions.\nProvides accurate documentation and summarization of an ocular examination, while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status.\nFiles patient forms and updates information in CareCoud/EMR system.\nIn some clinics, may be required to drive patients in a company-provided vehicle.\nMaintains an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor in accordance with Company policies.\nKeep commitments and keep direct supervisor informed of work progress, timetables, and issues.\nMaintain strict compliance with State, Federal and other regulations (e.g., OSHA, WC, HIPAA, ADA, FEHA, DOL, HR policies and practices).\nOther duties as assigned by management.\nRequirements\nREQUIRED: High School education, GED or equivalent. Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance. Ability to travel to other clinics as assigned.\nDESIRABLE:\nExperience in the Ophthalmic or Optometric Industry. Experience as a Back Office Technician.\nCERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS:\nCertified Ophthalmic Technician (preferred)\nCertified Ophthalmic Assistant (preferred)\nValid Driver’s License may be required based on clinic location(s).\nKNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES/TALENTS:\nTeam player and contributor coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skills (oral and written).\nSkills required include use and knowledge of WORD, EXCEL and use of standard office equipment.\nAbility to respond to common inquiries from customers, staff, vendors, or other members of the community.\nAbility to draw valid conclusions, apply sound judgment in making decisions, and to make decisions under pressure.\nAbility to interpret and apply policies and procedures.\nMust address others professionally and respectfully by actions, words, and deeds.\nDetail oriented, organized, process focused, problem solver, self-motivated proactive, customer service focused.\nDisplays independent judgment by willingness to make timely and accurate decisions based on available information that is sometimes vague or limited in nature.\nAbility to multitask effectively and work in a fast paced and sometimes ambiguous environment, without compromising quality of work.\nAbility to prioritize tasks and projects with limited direction, while understanding and contributing to the success of the clinic.\nWORK ENVIRONMENT:\nThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.\nThis is primarily an office classification. Temperature conditions are controlled with limited direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.\nAbility to travel to between offices.\nWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, see, talk, and hear. The employee will frequently lift and/or carry reports, records and other materials that typically weigh less than 20 pounds.
