Overview

Looking to make a difference and help modernize critical government missions? Join Acuity's team supporting the U.S. Department of State. As a Senior Infrastructure & Cloud Engineer (IaaS), you will provide hands-on engineering support for mission-critical data center, virtualization, compute, storage, hybrid-cloud, and globally distributed infrastructure. This role is deeply focused on enterprise VMware environments, Windows Server and Linux platforms, hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI), SAN/NAS storage, and the resilient infrastructure services that support Department of State operations worldwide.

Working closely with the Cloud Technical Lead, Cloud Engineers, Automation Engineers, Network Engineers, Cybersecurity teams, and government stakeholders, you will provide Tier 3 infrastructure engineering and troubleshooting, support infrastructure lifecycle modernization, and ensure the availability, security, resiliency, capacity, and performance of enterprise systems across domestic, overseas, on-premises, and cloud environments.

Why Acuity?

Are you ready to use your expertise in the areas of IT Modernization, Data Enablement, and Hyperautomation to make a real difference? Join Acuity, Inc., a technology consulting firm that supports federal agencies. We combine industry partnerships and long-term federal experience with innovative technical leadership to support our customers’ critical missions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, administer, and maintain enterprise data center, compute, virtualization, storage, HCI, operating system, and hybrid-cloud infrastructure supporting mission-critical operations.
  • Provide significant hands-on administration and engineering support for enterprise VMware environments, including VMware ESXi, vCenter, clusters, virtual networking, resource management, upgrades, patching, and lifecycle activities.
  • Deploy, configure, administer, patch, harden, and troubleshoot Windows Server and Linux operating systems supporting enterprise applications and infrastructure services.
  • Engineer and support enterprise compute and hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI), including integration with virtualization, networking, storage, backup, and disaster recovery services.
  • Administer and troubleshoot enterprise SAN/NAS storage platforms and virtualization-storage integrations, including capacity, performance, availability, connectivity, and lifecycle considerations.
  • Provide Tier 3 infrastructure troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex issues spanning servers, virtualization, storage, operating systems, cloud services, and dependent infrastructure components.
  • Design, implement, test, and maintain high-availability, disaster recovery, backup, resiliency, and business-continuity capabilities for mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Plan and execute infrastructure lifecycle activities, including technology refresh, patching, upgrades, migrations, and remediation of end-of-life (EOL) and end-of-support (EOS) hardware and software.
  • Monitor infrastructure health, availability, capacity, and performance using enterprise monitoring and observability platforms; identify trends, constraints, and opportunities for proactive remediation and optimization.
  • Use PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform, or similar technologies to automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, administration, compliance, and repetitive operational tasks.
  • Support Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and hybrid-cloud environments using at least one major cloud service provider such as AWS or Microsoft Azure, including integration between cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
  • Support overseas and globally distributed infrastructure deployments and coordinate with geographically dispersed or remote teams to maintain consistent, reliable infrastructure services across locations and time zones.
  • Operate within established ITSM disciplines, including change, incident, problem, configuration, and release management; participate in root cause analysis and continuous service improvement.
  • Partner with Cybersecurity teams to implement federal security and configuration requirements, including system hardening, vulnerability remediation, secure baselines, STIG-aligned controls, NIST/RMF compliance, and continuous monitoring.
  • Collaborate with Cloud and Automation Engineers to implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC), configuration management, standardized deployment patterns, and infrastructure modernization while maintaining operational stability.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, infrastructure diagrams, configuration standards, runbooks, operational procedures, and lifecycle roadmaps.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of customer mission objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience supporting enterprise infrastructure, systems engineering, data center operations, or Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) environments.
  • Significant hands-on enterprise VMware experience, including VMware ESXi and vCenter administration, troubleshooting, patching/upgrades, cluster management, and virtualization lifecycle support.
  • Strong hands-on experience administering and troubleshooting both Windows Server and Linux operating systems in enterprise environments.
  • Experience supporting enterprise compute and hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) platforms in highly available production environments.
  • Experience administering enterprise SAN and/or NAS storage and supporting storage integration with virtualized infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated Tier 3 infrastructure troubleshooting and root cause analysis experience across compute, virtualization, storage, operating systems, and related infrastructure services.
  • Experience designing, implementing, or supporting high availability, disaster recovery, backup, resiliency, and business-continuity solutions.
  • Experience managing infrastructure lifecycle activities, including upgrades, migrations, technology refresh, and EOL/EOS remediation.
