This role combines full-stack software development, geospatial systems expertise, and Linux-based deployment practices. The successful candidate will work closely with systems analysts, engineers, and operations teams to deliver reliable, scalable geospatial solutions.\nThis is a proactive recruitment initiative, with potential start dates in the coming weeks or months, contingent on contract award. \nKey Responsibilities\nDevelop and maintain GIS web applications and geospatial databases based on user and system requirements \nDesign, implement, and optimize database schemas and web-based data models \nProvide technical input and design guidance on system architecture and solution design \nImplement and manage source code control, versioning, and branching strategies \nBuild, configure, and administer Linux-based environments \nDevelop and deploy applications using container technologies (e.g., Docker) \nSupport application lifecycle activities including testing, troubleshooting, and performance validation \nProvide incident investigation, diagnostic, resolution, and recovery support \nCreate and maintain technical documentation, including SOPs, build guides, and architecture diagrams \nSupport network design considerations, including traffic flow and system integration \nTechnical Environment\nOperating Systems: Windows, Linux (Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS) \nDevelopment: MS Visual Studio \nLanguages: JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, SQL, HTML/CSS \nFrameworks / Tools: Node.js, Apache \nCloud & DevOps: Azure, GitHub, Docker, VMware \nDatabases: PostgreSQL (PostGIS), SQLite \nGIS Technologies: Leaflet, OpenLayers, MapLibre, CesiumJS \nGeospatial Services: MapServer, Nominatim, Google Earth \nData Formats: GeoJSON, KML/KMZ, Shapefiles \nProtocols: WMS, WFS, TMS, OpenStreetMap \n College diploma or University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or related field \nMinimum 5 years of recent geospatial software development and maintenance experience \nDemonstrated experience performing at least six (6) of the following: GIS web application and database development \nSource code control, versioning, and branching \nSolution design and technical advisory support \nDatabase and web model/schema design \nNetwork design and traffic flow documentation \nApplication testing and data validation \nApplication support and troubleshooting \nTechnical documentation (SOPs, build guides) \nContainer-based deployment (e.g., Docker) \n\nMinimum 3 years of Linux administration experience \nMinimum 2 years of containerization experience (Docker or equivalent) \nDesired / Asset Qualifications\n5-9+ years of geospatial development experience \nExperience with geospatial web APIs (Leaflet, OpenLayers, MapLibre, CesiumJS) \nExperience configuring and documenting GIS server infrastructure \nStrong experience producing technical documentation and architecture diagrams \nFamiliarity with open-source GIS platforms such as MapServer and Nominatim \n Must currently hold or be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret (Level II) Canadian Federal Government Security clearance.\nIf you require accommodations during any stage of the application or interview process, please let us know.
