We're building ours around people.\nYou’ll help build an Android experience that feels effortless, valuable and useful for young drivers, connecting customers with insights, rewards and services that make insurance helpful every day, not just when something goes wrong.\nAs Android Engineer, you’ll develop and deliver features from implementation through to release, working alongside experienced engineers to create high-quality mobile products while growing your technical skills.\nWhy this role matters\nOur Android app is a core part of Veygo’s next stage of growth. It needs to be fast, reliable and simple to use, supported by robust architecture and engineering practices that can scale.\nYou’ll contribute ideas and technical insight throughout development, using customer feedback and data to understand how your work improves the experience. You’ll have ownership of your features, with support from senior engineers when tackling unfamiliar or more complex challenges.\nYou’ll also have opportunities to use AI-assisted and agentic engineering tools, learning how they can support development while maintaining quality and good engineering judgement.\nWhat you’ll be responsible for\nDevelop and maintain Android features using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose and established architecture patterns.\nWork on API integration, data handling, networking and caching, with support on more complex offline and sync requirements.\nCollaborate with Product, Design, Backend Engineering and QA to understand customer needs and deliver well-tested features.\nWrite clean, maintainable code and automated tests, taking part in code reviews and acting on feedback.\nInvestigate bugs, crashes and performance issues, helping improve app reliability and customer experience.\nContribute to releases and improvements to tooling, documentation and development practices.\nWhat you’ll bring\nPractical experience developing and releasing Android applications.\nWorking proficiency in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, with a good understanding of Android frameworks and APIs.\nFamiliarity with modern Android architecture, including ViewModels, coroutines and Flow.\nExperience integrating APIs and handling data within mobile applications.\nExperience writing automated tests, debugging issues and using Git in a collaborative development environment.\nAn understanding of CI/CD and mobile release processes.\nGood problem-solving skills and an interest in understanding how technical choices affect customers.\nClear communication skills, with the confidence to ask questions, share ideas and work across disciplines.\nThe ability to take ownership of agreed work, recognise when you need support and respond constructively to feedback.\nCuriosity about AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or similar, and a willingness to learn how to use them effectively.\nOur technology\nLanguage and UI: Kotlin, Jetpack Compose.\nArchitecture: Modern modular Android architecture, coroutines and Flow.\nCI/CD and release: CircleCI, Firebase App Distribution and Google Play.\nQuality: Automated unit and UI testing, with BrowserStack for device coverage.\nObservability: New Relic and Firebase Crashlytics.\nAI-assisted engineering: Claude Code and other emerging agentic tooling.\nWhy Veygo?\nAt Veygo, we’re here to unlock independence.\nFor young drivers, getting on the road is a massive life moment-freedom, confidence, responsibility, and finally not needing a lift everywhere.
