This role will contribute to the design, evaluation, qualification, and integration of advanced optical components and subsystems used in high-performance optical networking products. The successful candidate will collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines to develop innovative solutions that meet demanding performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost objectives.\nThis position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies that enable the future of optical communication networks while participating throughout the entire product development lifecycle.\nDuties and Responsibilities\nOptical System Development\nDefine specifications, evaluate performance, qualify, and integrate passive and active optical components and subsystems.\nSupport the development of DWDM optical communication systems incorporating:DWDM modules\nROADMs (Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexers)\nWavelength-selective switches\nOptical amplifiers\nLaser and photodetector-based subsystems\n\nAnalyze system performance and support optical design trade-off studies.\nCollaborate with component suppliers and technology partners to evaluate emerging optical technologies.\nHardware Design\nDesign and develop electronic circuits for laser, photodetector, and optical subsystem control.\nImplement and optimize analog and digital control algorithms.\nContribute to mixed-signal hardware development and troubleshooting activities.\nProvide PCB layout guidance and participate in schematic, layout, and design reviews.\nSupport hardware integration, verification, and product qualification activities.\nTest, Validation, and Automation\nPerform hands-on laboratory testing, characterization, and validation of optical components and subsystems.\nDevelop software tools and automation solutions for:Instrument control\nData acquisition\nTest monitoring\nPerformance characterization\n\nCollect, analyze, and interpret test data to identify performance trends and opportunities for improvement.\nDevelop and execute qualification and reliability test plans.\nCross-Functional Collaboration\nWork closely with optical, electrical, mechanical, firmware, software, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams.\nDrive technical solutions that balance performance, packaging, interface, reliability, and cost requirements.\nParticipate in design reviews and support root-cause analysis and corrective actions when necessary.\nCreate and maintain high-quality engineering documentation, reports, specifications, and test procedures.\nRequired Qualifications\nEducation\nBS in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.\nMS degree is preferred.\nExperience\nMinimum of 2 years of relevant engineering experience in one or more of the following areas:Optical communications\nTest and measurement systems\nHardware development\nMixed-signal electronics\nPhotonics or related technologies\n\nTechnical Skills\nUnderstanding of optical communication systems and optical networking technologies.\nExperience with test equipment and laboratory measurement techniques.\nKnowledge of analog and digital electronics.\nExperience with mixed-signal circuit design and debugging.\nFamiliarity with laser and photodetector control systems.\nAbility to analyze technical data and solve complex engineering problems.\nSoftware Skills\nExperience with one or more of the following is desirable:\nVisual Basic\nMicrosoft Excel automation\nLabVIEW\nC++\nTest automation and data acquisition software development\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with DWDM transmission systems.\nKnowledge of ROADMs, wavelength-selective switching technologies, and optical amplifiers.\nFamiliarity with analog servo-loop control systems.\nExperience supporting products through the complete development lifecycle from concept through production.\nKnowledge of optical component reliability and qualification requirements.\nFamiliarity with industry standards including:Telcordia\nIEC\nITU\n\nExperience working with external vendors and technology
