The role owns significant components or smaller products and projects from inception through production, applying professional expertise with minimal supervision and collaborating across teams and disciplines. This position translates business and technology requirements into maintainable, secure, resilient, observable, and performant solutions aligned with enterprise architecture and engineering standards. The engineer also improves delivery and operational outcomes through automation, Agile and DevOps practices, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. \nOur flexible/ hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days. Our core office locations are Chicago, IL, Quincy, MA, & Salisbry, NC.\nApplicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.\nDuties & Responsibilities\nOwn the design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support of significant software components or smaller products and projects, delivering high-quality outcomes from inception through production. \nCollaborate with product leaders, architects, engineers, and business stakeholders to understand end-user goals; evaluate requirements; identify gaps, risks, scalability concerns, and technical debt; and translate needs into clear technical specifications and testable user stories. \nBuild production-ready code, APIs, integrations, and automated unit and API tests that are maintainable, testable, secure, resilient, observable, scalable, and performant, while following approved architecture, standards, guardrails, documentation, and source-control practices. \nParticipate in solution design and technical reviews, analyze system interfaces and migrations, and provide informed recommendations on technical options, estimates, dependencies, risks, and business impacts. \nUse Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD practices to deliver changes iteratively; improve build, test, release, and deployment automation; and help teams deliver functionality quickly, safely, and consistently. \nExecute and continuously improve functional, regression, integration, security, performance, and compliance testing; analyze results, resolve defects, and confirm deployments meet defined expectations. \nMonitor application health through logs, metrics, and observability tools; identify performance, reliability, availability, and capacity improvements; and communicate relevant findings and recommendations to product and technical stakeholders. \nTroubleshoot production and non-production issues by performing root-cause analysis, evaluating multiple options, implementing sustainable fixes, documenting resolutions, and supporting change, incident, and problem-management processes. \nCoordinate upgrades, enhancements, vendor interactions, and integration activities with minimal disruption to production operations, and proactively managing technical debt. \nTake ownership of delivered solutions, communicate business value and technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, provide guidance to junior engineers, raise risks early, and contribute to a collaborative product mindset and continuous-improvement culture. \nMay be called upon to support critical escalations and must be available during urgent IT incidents as needed\n\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's degree or equivalent years of work experience.\n5+ years of software engineering experience; preferrably in the MDM space\nProficiency in one or more relevant programming or scripting languages and strong knowledge of software design concepts, application integration, APIs, and relational databases. \nDemonstrated ability to independently deliver routine and moderately complex work and to own significant components or smaller products or projects from design through implementation. \nExperience with software development lifecycles, Agile delivery, DevOps practices, source control, CI/CD principles and tools, automated testing, configuration management, and release management. \nExperience building maintainable, testable, secure, resilient, observable, scalable, and performant software, including unit, API, integration, regression, and non-functional testing. \nStrong troubleshooting and debugging skills, including root-cause analysis, production support, system monitoring, and clear documentation of status, actions, and resolutions. \nKnowledge of security, governance, identity and access management, monitoring, and enterprise architecture standards as they apply to software design and delivery. \nStrong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, adaptability, learning agility, customer and business orientation, and ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. \nAbility to manage multiple assignments, work effectively in a fast-paced environment, provide informal technical guidance, and deliver with minimal supervision.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with cloud or cloud-native development platforms and technologies such as Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift. \nExperience with decoupled applications, APIs, microservices, event-driven integration, or middleware technologies. \nExperience with observability, automated remediation, performance tuning, application security, and reliability engineering practices. \nExperience supporting enterprise-scale retail, supply chain, merchandising, finance, master data, or other business-critical platforms. \nRelevant cloud, Agile, DevOps, software engineering, or security certification. \nDemonstrated curiosity, creativity, collaboration, human-centered design thinking, and responsible use of AI tools to improve engineering productivity and business outcomes. \n\nSalary Range: $125,040.00 - $187,560.00\nAll ADUSA job offers take multiple factors into consideration including, but not limited to salary range, internal equity, a candidate's qualifications, geographic region, job-related knowledge and skills. \nThis position is eligible for an incentive bonus based on company performance as provided by the plan terms and governing documents.\nAt Ahold Delhaize USA, we provide services to one of the largest portfolios of grocery companies in the nation, and we're actively seeking top talent.\nOur team shares a common motivation to drive change, take ownership and enable our brands to better care for their customers.
