Discover how your skills and dedication can make a real difference to us.\nAbout this Role\nNorthStar Energy Services is seeking an experienced and technically strong Designer to join the Professional Engineering Consulting team in Arlington or Houston, Texas. This role requires hands-on leadership for complex deliverables while supporting project execution under the direction of the Design Supervisor and Engineering Manager.\nWhat You'll Do\nDesign\nDevelop and locate electrical and instrumentation (I&E) equipment within a 3D model environment using AutoCAD, CADWorx, and Navisworks in coordination with engineers and multi-discipline design teams.\nDesign site-specific power distribution and control systems in accordance with company, client, and applicable industry standards for integration into new or existing facilities.\nInterpret Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to establish project scope and design requirements.\nPrepare design drawings and concept sketches to support construction execution, change orders, cost estimates, and field activities.\nGenerate and maintain required project documentation, including status reports, punch lists, as-built sketches, and material quantity calculations.\nDetailed Design and Documentation\nDevelop orthographic plan and layout drawings from 2D and 3D models for installation of power and control systems, including hazardous area classification, conduit routing, cable tray, grounding, and instrument locations, in accordance with company and client standards.\nProduce detailed installation drawings for electrical and instrumentation equipment.\nSize cabinets, panelboards, cables, cable tray, and conduit in accordance with applicable codes, project scope, and vendor data.\nPrepare required one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and loop diagrams for power and control systems.\nDemonstrate recent experience producing construction-ready electrical and control system documentation.\nApply established quality control processes and checklists, maintaining ownership and accountability for completed work.\nDeliverable Management and Coordination\nResearch, review, and apply company standards, municipal requirements, and applicable regulatory codes.\nPerform independent QA/QC reviews of I&E design deliverables.\nVerify that structural and site-development layouts align with overall project design intent.\nSupport Professional Engineers during the design phase, including standards review, collection of calculation inputs, permitting requirements, and other engineering support activities.\nCoordinate I&E design requirements with multi-discipline project teams.\nReview drawings from other disciplines to ensure coordination and consistency with I&E systems.\nReview and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) throughout the project lifecycle.\nReview third-party vendor drawings to confirm compatibility with the intended I&E design.\nWhat You'll Bring\nQualifications & Experience\nAssociate or bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline.\nMinimum of ten (10) years of experience in power distribution or controls systems design.\nAll qualified candidates will be required to complete an in-person, computer-based assessment.\nTechnical Expertise\nMinimum of eight (8) years of current experience with AutoCAD, CADWorx, Navisworks, and Microsoft Office.\nDetailed knowledge in the application of Codes and current Standards, including but not limited to:National Electrical Code (NEC)\nANSI/ISA-5.1-2022\nAPI-RP500\n\nAbility to independently research and interpret equipment data, vendor documentation, and technical references.\nCommunication & Collaboration\nExcellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.\nAbility to collaborate effectively with designers, engineers, project managers, and external stakeholders.\nWhat You'll Get\nAs a Quanta Services employee, we offer a wide range of benefits to fit your needs.\n401(k) with immediate matching and vesting\nFully comprehensive benefits packages; Medical, Dental, Vision\nYour choice of PPO, HSA, FSA\nShort-term and long-term benefits\nEqual Opportunity Employer\nQuanta provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.\nNote: This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
