With a focus on quality, precision, and customer satisfaction, we support a wide range of industries from our state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities across Coeur d'Alene (Idaho), Taiwan, and Shenzhen, China.\nRole Summary\n1HMX / AIS is looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to serve as the senior-most technical authority on mechanical and electromechanical design across our most complex and strategically important programs. This individual will set technical direction, resolve the hardest design and manufacturing problems, and mentor other engineers, while still driving designs end to end from ideation through qualification and into production. Projects will range from internal innovations to flagship products with world leading brands. Technology includes plastic injection molding, elastomeric molding, machining, metal forming and stamping. This is a role for an experienced engineer who thrives on ambiguity and hard problems, influences technical strategy beyond a single project, works closely with customers and factory teams at the executive and technical level, and takes ownership of outcomes across the broader engineering organization.\nKey Responsibilities\nLeads architectural and detailed mechanical/electromechanical design on the most complex programs, utilizing 1HMX technology to exceed customer requirements and specifications.\nAssists in performing costing activities to support sales growth.\nWorks with customers to help establish design definitions.\nSets technical direction and roadmap for mechanical design capabilities, driving innovation that builds long-term 1HMX value.\nOwns the development and maintenance of design standards and best practices across the mechanical engineering organization.\nCoordinates mechanical/electromechanical design activities with the responsible Project Manager.\nReviews designs with Manufacturing to ensure the product is manufacturable.\nResponsible for the mechanical/electromechanical facets of assigned projects through production.\nLead reliability and testing of designs.\nMentors and provides technical guidance to other mechanical engineers, raising the design and problem-solving capability of the team.\nProvides technical leadership across multiple concurrent programs, stepping in to resolve the most difficult design and manufacturability issues.\nRepresents 1HMX / AIS in senior technical discussions with strategic customers and partners.\nParticipate in technical design review meetings.\nQualifications\nRequired\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.\n12 plus years of relevant product design experience, including demonstrated technical leadership on complex programs.\nDeep, proven experience designing and analyzing complex multi-part mechanisms and mechanical/electromechanical assemblies, from concept through production.\nStrong analytical abilities in math, stress, and thermal analysis.\nAttention to detail, tolerancing, accuracy, and speed of execution.\nExperience with plastic, elastomer, and metal part design and fabrication.\nSolid foundation in materials science.\nFamiliarity with designing for EMC compliance.\nRapid prototyping experience.\nElectronic packaging experience.\n3D CAD tool experience, preferably with SolidWorks.\nAbility to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with customers, vendors, and factory personnel.\nAbility to manage individual design projects from conception through production.\nAbility to manage multiple concurrent projects.\nDemonstrated track record mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction beyond a single project team.\nAdvanced CAD/CAE experience, e.g., advanced surfacing and FEA.\nPreferred\nExperience with industry-standard PC interfaces.\nExperience holding or contributing to patents, or publishing/presenting technical work externally.\nExperience with statistical quality control and inspection techniques.\nFamiliarity with FDA, TUV, EC, FCC, and other applicable agency requirements.\nFamiliarity with reliability engineering methodologies, including worst-case, stress, and durability analysis and HALT.\nExperience establishing sourcing and tooling strategies.\nExperience with direct customer technical communication and guidance.\nWork Conditions\nSome domestic and occasional global travel to support customers and 1HMX / AIS facilities.\nAbility to work in lab, prototype shop, and manufacturing environments with appropriate PPE.\nEqual Opportunity\n1HMX /AIS is an equal opportunity employer.
