Overview of Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. This role is pivotal in advancing our Fiber Optic Gyroscope (FOG) technology. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the underlying physics and operational principles of FOGs and their constituent components. You will play a crucial role in the design, development, testing, and manufacturing scale-up of our cutting-edge FOG-based navigation systems.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design and development of FOG and related systems for outstanding performance, reliability, and manufacturability
  • Develop and refine manufacturing processes for FOGs, with a key focus on scalability to large production volumes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software, hardware, and production, to ensure seamless product development and integration.
  • Analyse test data, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to enhance FOG performance and reliability
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in FOG technology, photonics, and relevant manufacturing techniques
  • Contribute to a customer-centric approach by ensuring our FOG technology meets and exceeds customer expectations in demanding applications
  • Develop and establish efficient processes for testing fibre optic coils
  • Develop capability for additional processes such as coil stress conditioning
  • Support and guide the Production Engineering team to develop performance metrics and SPC measures
  • Guide design and development of fibre optic coil related process tooling

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics, Optics, Photonics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in the field of Fiber Optic Gyroscopes
  • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of FOG physics, including the Sagnac effect and associated phenomena.
  • In-depth knowledge of photonics, including light sources, optical fibers, couplers, modulators, and detectors relevant to FOGs.
  • Solid background in electro-optical systems design and integration.
  • Demonstrable experience with manufacturing processes for optical or precision electro-mechanical systems, particularly with an understanding of challenges related to large-scale production.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • A proactive and results-oriented mindset, with a commitment to taking ownership and accountability.

Desirablequalifications & skills:

  • PhD in a relevant field.
  • Understanding of algorithms and software used in inertial navigation systems (though deep specialisation is not required).
  • Familiarity with simulation and modeling tools for optical and inertial systems.
  • Experience in industries such as defence, aerospace, or autonomous systems.
  • Formal training in RCA tools & 8D problem solving

Additional Considerations:

  • The ideal candidate will be a proactive and self-motivated individual with a strong sense of ownership.
  • They should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and be able to adapt to changing priorities.
  • A passion for technology and a commitment to delivering high-quality products is essential.
  • The candidate should demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset, always seeking ways to optimize processes and enhance team performance.
