Support farm labor needs with primary responsibility of supporting the livestock operations. Full-time, regular position, 40 hours per week. This position pays $20.39/hour, or applicable transfer rate in accordance with the ACSUM collective bargaining agreement.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform farm operations, including animal feeding, general facilities upkeep such as mowing lawns, weed trimming, snow removal, and field cultivation, including planting, tending, and harvesting crops.
  • Assist where needed with all farm operations and maintenance.
  • Operate farm equipment such as dairy robotic machines, tractors, skid steers, farm implements, and trucks.
  • Assist with equipment and facility repairs and maintenance. Troubleshoot independently.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and students.
  • Complete required safety training and maintain detailed records and reports.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Typically has the education associated with an associate’s degree in agronomy, animal sciences, or a related field or equivalent work experience and training and sufficient experience, including three years of farm operations experience.
  • Valid Maine driver’s license and be eligible to be authorized and approved as a university driver based on the Driver Administration Policy.
  • Some knowledge of farm operations and procedures for operating, inspecting, maintaining, and storing assigned equipment.
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, sometimes under unfavorable conditions.
  • Ability to carry out physically demanding job tasks, including lifting a minimum of 50 pounds.

Preferred:

  • A bachelor’s degree in animal sciences or a related field and at least three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of farm operations experience on a dairy farm.
  • Milking and animal husbandry experience.
  • Two years of hands-on mechanical experience, specifically with agricultural machinery and implements.
  • Knowledgeable with checking equipment and performing routine cleaning and minor maintenance as needed.
